I have just been offered a job for 17.5k. I am in my final stages of technician , 1 exam left.I have not got that much accounts experience. The job i have been offered will involve being in charge of purchase ledger, bank rec, accruals and prepayments, salaries and general accounts support. Do you think this is a fair salary? I would like to hear peoples opinions.

Hi Amelie.
Yes, it is a fair salary, especially if they will support future study.

Re:wages at technician level
I think so. That looks like the average pay for a technician. Have a look at this month's AT mag. for a general overview on pay....I have not got that much accounts experience...Do you think this is a fair salary?...
It would be interesting to know how you did in the interview if there was any. Was it a move within the same organisation?0 -
Re:wages at technician level
Hi Amelie,
I am at my final stage of technician and I work only 18 hours a week (Mo - Wed). I get paid £14.000 plus Bupa, Pension and Life Insurance. On top of that if we make our budget I usually get a 13th salary. Maybe it has something to do with being near London or maybe I am just very lucky.
Good luck!

Re:wages at technician level
Hi,
I think I will definately go for it as it should give me some more experience and I dont think it is a bad wage and they will support future study if I wanted! Natascha sounds like she has perfect hours/ job ;-)0 -
Re:wages at technician level
Obviously it depends which part of the UK you are in and is this a ok salary for your part.
If i was offered that amount i would definately take it. The type of salary i have been offered is only about £13500, thus the reason i am still unemployed :?
Hope this helps.0 -

Im studying foundation level and had a starting salary of £15000, so i dont blame you for being unemployed at that kind of offering!!

Re:wages at technician level
I think if your out of work, you shouldnt be picky about how much you can earn. The longer you are unemployed the less desirable you become. It does also depend on the salary of your previous job though0 -
Re:wages at technician level
Hi
I think a suitable salary at technician level will depend on more than just having reached technician level. Employers may also consider relevant work experience, nonrelevant/general work experience, content of previous work expeirence, content of the job in hand as well as other less tangible issues such as responsibility/importance of the job to the organisation.
Its not always clear cut.

Re:wages at technician level
I agree, the experience does account!
But,
how long experience you have before you get pay at £17500 pa? Are you working in practice or industry?
Which offer a better salary compare those two?0 -
Re:wages at technician level
Hi
Usually industry pays more than practice, but I must be an exception as I am paid more now working part time in practice (but I sub-contract) than when I worked full time in industry.
I think £17.5k is very reasonable, but like others have said it is not just about accounts experience the salary reflects the job role & responsibilities as well.
Well done on getting the job & good luck if you accept it
