Dear all
I have been sending out my CV for accounts vacancies but because I didn't work in accounts for a while, the response I'm getting is very minimal. One agancy actually told to try and get at least 2-3 month's experience on my CV and get back to them.
I need to hear from those who managed to work as a volunteer or in a temporary position in order to build some direct accounts experience. I am very good with computing and data entry it is just that my direct accounts experience was long time ago and in another country.
I will be available from the end of April when my current contract ends due to company closure.
All your contribution and suggestion is very much appreciated.
I am studying AAT and hopfully be completing the Advanced Certificate level in the summer.
Thanks
Tom

Re:Help With Work Experience
I hope this doesn't sound too obvious, but do you have any friends already in the trade? I only ask as I have just landed a couple of weeks work experience with a local company through a friend. It would appear that they are more than relaxed about it, as my friend is their accountant, and therefore I come highly recommended. I never even approached them, she did it all for me.
Just a thought. I hope you have a friend who can help you in the same manner.0 -
Re:Help With Work Experience
I volunteer at my local credit union. Even though the role is mostly administrative work I still get to help out with the accounts. I do stuff like bank recs and BACS payments. I also do the more mundane tasks like paying cheques, going to the post office and answering telephones etc. I know it may not be what you want but voluntary work in accounts can be quite hard to come by - I found that even though I live in London. I really enjoy the accounts work and the permanent staff ( and the volunteers) are a great bunch of people. Failing that, try to register with some of the recruitment agencies like Reed, RK Accountancy (if there is one near you), ECHM (look them up on the web), Accountancy Additions... the list goes on. Good luck! Let me know how you get on.
Yours,

Re:Help With Work Experience
Dear tinylittlelady, Jayne Hogan,
Thanks a lot for your advice and suggestions. I've been to Reed before and I will be going back when my contract ends. I might know few people who work in Accounts and I will try that route as well. And will keep you all posted when there is a change
Thanks once again
Tom
