Distance Learning Intermediate with FTC Kaplan

Hi there! :D

Is anyone studying intermediate home study with FTC? how is for you?
I ask you this because I'm studying at the moment unit 5 and I don't like the books. I found them not clear enough. Maybe I'm wrong but this is my impression.
When you do some activities is often different from what they shown you in the theory and they almost never show any workings/calculations to find out the amount for posting. :roll:
I did foundation with BPP but at least with them I did not have this problem (but with tutors not helpful yes).
Any comment?

    Am doing intermediate with FTC and I am finding the books okay.
    Not had any problems yet.

    I'm doing intermediate with FTC, I know what you mean. I find it annoying they give you an example then an activity but the activity is so much harder & they don't explain how they get to that answer. I've just done the practise sim for unit 5 & the real sim & I couldn't complete them correctly, still waiting for response from FTC been nearly 5 weeks!

    Watch out for unit 6 though, 1 of the activities in chapter 1 uses the wrong figures in the answer which was helpful.

    Have either of you done the sim for unit 5?

    Exactly FPettifer! this is what I meant! I write to my tutor almost everyday to report some lack of explanations and errors in the book!
    I did Pratice Simulation 2 weeks ago but I still have not received... :? In the meantime I will do AAT Skill Test, as I am already behind schedule...but I would prefere to see first my simulation to check it...but I cannot wait longer!! :(

    when you doing your exams? I'm taking both in june, really worrying though considering I couldn't complete the sim, time is running out :(

    Me too!! and I have not yet started Unit 6!! Where are you sitting yours? I am here in London but I don't know which venue they use!

    i'm sitting in reading. started unit 6 the other week didn't want to, would of rather sorted my issues with unit 5 before continuing.

    In fact... I have to start soon Unit 6 too, even I am still struggle with Unit 5...
    I just ordered Unit 5 Osboune Book for more reference, may be useful to understand some concept! :P

    Are you talking about ECR practice given by FTC? Which one was it? Is it the one with the memo and where they give you info and then you have to complete the 2 or tasks on the next page?

    no its activity 6 in chapter 1 of ecr old standard not the dipolma pathway, if they're the same i don't know.

    I'm currently doing Unit 5 and struggling, so much so that I've decided to just concentrate on taking Unit 5 exam in June and delaying Unit 6 as I can't seem to get used to their way of writing. I used Osbourne books for the foundation and it may have been becasue it was easier but I found them much better to use.

    HC1001 so do you find Unit 5 Osborne Book easier then FTC's ones? Is it more helpful?

    I have found the error too....activity 6....
    And Activity 5 they use a different way to calculate cost per unit, it's different from the example given..as usual..

    I have the same impression about FTC books, they are not clear enough that is why i bought both osborne books for unit 5.

    The problem with FTC books is that they use too simple example to explain something and then the following activity is so much harder and complicated to do it! How can you learn and practise in this way?!

    I just started Unit 6 and it's a nightmare! Look Chapter 2 about FIFO and LIFO methods, a little basic example and a complicated Activity 1 where there were opening stock, receipts and issues! I didn't know where to start! :(
    So I bought Osborne book for Unit 6 and 7 as well hoping I can understand more!

    I must admit i found some of the examples too easy , but completed the first mock test on the second at the moment , however what i have done is while i am waiting for the paper to be returned i have continued with unit 6 got about half way though . However i think i do have a slight advantage in that i am between jobs at the moment so i can put more hours towards it .

    Hi,

    I'm new to the forum but have been studying Intermediate with FTC distance learning for over a year..... I sat both exams last year, but guess what, the one I failed was unit 5 (doing resit this June). Like you, I found the FTC textbooks really hard work, especially with the depreciation and disposal chapters. I spent a small fortune recently on various other textbooks, found the Book-Keeping & Accounts text by Frank Woods really helpful, so this time I'll hopefully pass!!

    The worst thing is that I'm also waiting for feedback. I submitted my practice simulation almost 3 weeks ago, and have still not heard anything from them. For the amount the course costs you'd think they'd be able to at least send an e-mail to give you and idea of when you'll get the results back!!

    Has anyone had any problems getting hold of / advice from the tutors?
