Please can I have some advice! I am being made redundant from my job in October I have worked for the company for 12 years in industry doing Purchase Ledger and cash book.
I have completed my Foundation and have passed unit 5 and will be sitting unit 6 in June. I am unsure as to what to do about a new job! Do I look at Industry again or do I go into Practice - I'm not sure what will help my studies more - can anybody give me some advice?!
:?
Thanks

Re:Practice or Industry
Hi
I'd say it will be the content of the particular role that would help your studies, rather than whether it is in practice or industry.
Moving from one to the other can be trcky, roles in one differ from the other. If i were you, rather than looking for a practice or industry role in general I would look at the content of roles to see which suited me best.

Practice or Industry
Hey. I would say working in practice helps a lot more with your studies as after foundation level, practice work is more relevant. I do my AAT on a day release basis and people i go to college with that work in industry tend to find some parts a little harder as they don't use them at work. This means they can end up having to do more questions etc as are unable to provide evidence.
However...the snag! The pay in practice tends to be lower and there are fewer jobs. They also tend to look for either graduates or fully trained staff. However, if you can get the chance to get into a practice, i would reccomend this over industry.
Hope it helps and gud luck job hunting!
Stace!

From what I know, and if you're after straight answers, you'll be lucky to get into practice.0 -

Hi
In my opinion, working in practice may be more relevant to your studies especially the further you get in the course.
I recently had the same dilemma as you - deciding between industry and practice. I kept my options open and joined a recruitment agency, but also applies to all my local practices. I agree with the threads below that it is hard to get into practive. But if that is what you want dont be put off....i applied to 4 firms (2 of these speculative letters), was interviewed for 2 and then offered both. Yes the snag is that i have had to drop my salary a little. Again, you have to decide if practice is worth the drop for a long term career.
I hope this gives you something to think about, dont be put off if it is what you truly want. If you dont try then you dont get!!0
