unit 10 word count

Hi there

Im just finishing off my project and wondered abouot the word count, does it include all of the repor except appendicies, or are there certain sections which arent included??

    It includes all except appdx. I think my total word count excluding these was 3575.

    When I completed my project, my tutor at FTC told us that only the following sections are included in the word count:

    Background/Company Info
    Managing People
    Analysis of Current System
    Recommendations
    Implementation and review

    The sections not included in the word count were:

    Index
    Terms of Reference
    Methodology
    Management / Executive Summary
    Appendices
    Research

    As Ghoban has suggested differently to mine, I would suggest you double check with an AAT tutor. My FTC tutor is actually one of the internal verifiers and she's already deemed me competant for this project so I'm 100% sure she is right.

    I hope what I've mentioned doesn't mean you need to add more work to get the word count up! If you're still unsure, please contact AAT for further clarification.

    Just to clarify, my tutor was also an FTC tutor and internal verifier, my project was signed off as competent and have received my exemptions for 1.3 on ACCA.

    I think as long as your project covers all the necessary criteria and is competent the tutor wont be too worried that you havent got exactly 4000 words or over.

    Ghoban, please don't think I was disagreeing with what you said. It's obvious that different tutors look out for different things, and let's face it, I don't think they are going to count every single word are they, mine didn't!

    I do however agree that as long as you cover what is required in the criteria (without waffling), I'm sure the tutor isn't interested in how many words you have.

    Teddy14 - Do remember to add your word count as this is a requirement.

    thanks for the help, ive got 4800 words including all sections ill double check with my assessor.

    Hiya, as far as I am aware it is everything apart from the appendix but I haven't counted the contents so I can get it down a bit.

    I have got 4500 which I reckon will be OK but I am handing it in tomorrow so I will let you know if I get told different.

    Also, I was not aware that putting the word count in is a requirement - is that true?

    Hi Super_Deb

    My tutor informed us that we needed to include the word count as it shows we've kept within the 4000-word limit requirement.

    If you look on the Publication section and click on Unit 10 and have a look at the "Unit 10 Project Template" (Word doc), it actually points out in there at the end of the template to include your word count i.e. "[word count]"

    It seems obvious to me however, based on the posts for this topic that everyone's tutor seems to be giving different information. I would clarify with your tutor - you're not going to be penalised for asking.

    My tutor said he didn't care if my project was 2500 words if it met the all of the criteria. Our tutors are hardly going to count them all. :D

    I'm pretty sure the word count is a guide. If the AAT didn't give us a word count some people would write only 1000 words and others 15000 words.
