Hi

As everyone will know the DFS exam in June is under the new International Standards. I was just wondering if anyone has any revised past papers to account for the changes or any other study material that might be of use in my revision for this topic

Thanks

I study at a college in Yorkshire and my tutor has been on a course with the cheif examiner. She stated that we should use past exam papers to revise, just change some of the terminology.

    Re:DFS

Sorry I forgot to ask  Is it only the terminology that needs changed such as P & L being Income Statement etc. Is everything else just the same. Our tutor told us not to look at the old papers at all as it would be to confusing for us

    Re:DFS

Our tutor said only this morning that it was worthless to go over the past exams because it will only confuse us even more. She did recommend reading the assessors reports though.

    Re:DFS

 Oh my god somebody please help!!
I've just logged on and read that the DFS Exam in June is under the new international standards. I has no idea about this. I sat this exam in December but i failed so i am re-sitting as well as doing PEV and PCR. My Tutor has been off this year so i havent been informed of these changes to the paper. As only two of us failed this subject in the class we havent been doing any DFS in college so we have to revise ourselves. What does these new standards mean? What is going to change? I've been revising using past papers and am now worried i shouldn't be.

    Hiya Jan,
Have a look at what the AAT has put on their site for the new standards. Copy and paste the link below. www.aat.org.uk/centres/display/store4/item4139/
    Hope this helps.

    Re:DFS

    Yes I feel the same

Unit 11 has been the hardest by far as it is so wide in topics... I feel that 2.5 hours per week is not enough

we have been advised not to look on past papers too and hardly had any homework

That's all i've been doing is past papers. I hate the text books i seem to read the same line over and over and cant take any of it in.

    Re:DFS

Hi can anyone help. With the DFS exam in June being under the new standards, do we have to learn the FRS/SSAP's and the IAS's? Or do the IAS's replace the FRS and SSAP's??

    Thanks

    Re:DFS

I tired asking the AAT if the questions had been re-written to account for the new terminology and lay out but the reply I got was not very helpful. Found the BPP Website extermely helpful especially there notes on the AAT Masterclass that was held regarding the impending DFS Exam

    Re:DFS

In the exam, the IAS's replace the SSAP's and FRS, but of course not in the accounting world, as they both still exist.

My tutor also raised the point that you now do NOT amortise Goodwill, only make impairments if necessary!

    Re:DFS

I am an AAT member now studying CIMA and they have already used International Standards in the exams. The IAS's are not difficult because you are not expected to learn the IAS numbers off by heart (as with the FRS's!) because they give you the full title in the exam question.

Things like Post Balance Sheet Events or Research & Development (Intangible Non-Current Assets) rules, haven't really changed. One question came up on the CIMA May 2006 Financial Statements & Tax Prinicples exam (professional level) Multiple Choice section, 'define an 'expense' as per the IASB' - I just simply quoted the 'economic outflow...' etc, defintion, exactly as I did in AAT's DFS exam. I'm sure I'll get a point, even if it's not exact wording.
