Re:DFS Technician Exam
I'm also studying for June-06 DFS .The new format for Income Statement,Balance Sheet & CAsh Flow are on the AAT website to download .....have a look
All the formats will be provided on the answer booklet , I don't think we should memorise them .
But the new IAS is being introduced and I'm still struggling to get them into my head!!!!
Good luck0 -

Re:DFS Technician Exam
Hi Guys,
I've posted a number of threads relating to IAS over the last few weeks.
IAS are not really that much different than their FRS/SSAP equivalent. The UK, over the years, has known that the transformation from FRS to IAS was imminent and, as such, has always worked in tangent with its International counterparts.
There are differences in the standards, but if you have come across FRS/SSAP's in your earlier studies and grasped them (obviously if you passed the earlier financial papers) then IAS shouldn't pose too many problems (overall).
IAS are probably "intimidating" at the moment because they are new and students may consider this to be a whole new format of what they are previously used to. The numbers are different (e.g. FRS 1 [Cash Flow Statements] is now IAS 7) but overall the contents of the IAS is not too much of a departure from the UK FRS/SSAP.
I am surprised that there are a number of threads who inform other readers that their tuition provider/college have either just informed students that IAS is examinable from Juned 2006 or not even taught IAS. One post, in particular, panicked when s/he read that IAS is examinable from June 2006. If this is the case and your tuition provider has not made you aware that IAS is examinable or not even taught it (which I would find very surprising) then this is an issue which needs to be addressed with your college/tuition provider. Articles have also been written in Accounting Technician identifying the examinability of IAS from June 2006.
If it is any consolation, FRS/SSAP's were also an area which caused quite a bit of unrest so IAS (I would expect) to be treated exactly the same.
Kind regards
Steve
