Hi there,
thanks for reading this, I have to do the above but have no idea how as I did not have any tutoring about it! Do you know what they want exactly? I can do the VDU assesment part but what do I do with this?:
Answer all questions fully
Include workplace evidence, noting what it demonstrates.
Include a statement from your Manager/Supervisor stating that it is your own work.
Date and Sign front cover
Submit to customer services or your tutor to be passed to the Assessor.
Projects will be assessed by month end if submitted by the 7th.
Workshops are available to assist you.
One to One tuition is available on request
The back sheet is used for assessment please sign before submitting your project. Please sign it.
Attach your student record for signature
Please clearly state your centre number and if you are a modern apprenticeship.

1. Compile a checklist of safety checks that you should complete prior to starting up a standalone AND networked PC.
2. Explain the use of passwords and your organisational procedures for changing them.
3. What software applications do you use?
4. Demonstrate how you use ONE of these software applications, by providing screen prints to show :
How you ACCESS data
How you SAVE data
How you TRANSFER data between software applications
How you PRINT data
How you EXIT the system
5. Demonstrate how documents are filed on your P.C using screen prints :
Choice of file names
Folders
6. Explain how you back up your work and why.
7. How do you close down your system and why?
8. Explain the following terms:
Hardware Failure
Software Failure
Data Corruption
9. Who would you contact to assist you with the difficulties described in question 8?
10.Produce a document that shows your organisations house style requirements / layout .

7. Explain the term Copyright.
8. What is your organisation policy for retention of documents?
9. What are your organisations security policies with reference to Information Technology?
10.Complete the VDU assessment attached and comment on your findings.

I did this a couple of years ago and it isn't that difficult. They aren't expecting answers to be a hi-tech as IT department level.
At our college we used the Office Skills Osborne book which gave us most of the answers, but you could probably do it without if you use computers at all.
For example, the VDU and Health and Safety stuff you can get from the Health and Safety Executive website. Risks to your computer could be viruses. Security policies could include backing up the server every night incase data is lost, etc.
Can anyone else help who has done this more recently?0 -

Hi there
I also felt that I was expected to give highly technical information and without blowing my own trumpet too much, I do know a thing or two about IT and was really unsure of how much information I needed to include.
After consulting my tutor (on more than one occassion, I can assure you), I soon realised that my project needed to be written as though I was teaching somebody who was IT illiterate.
I'm not in a position to be giving you answers to what is required of you to complete however I would suggest that you arrange a few meetings with both your IT manager and Health & Safety manager as they are the best people to help you with this Unit. Make sure that if your company has any policies relating to what you need to cover i.e. passwords, back ups etc, then include them.
I'm sorry if this doesn't help you the way you requested however please don't read too much into what is required of you to complete this unit. It's very simple and you're merely trying to prove to your tutor that you are PC literate.
