    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

Hi all! Hmm well what I did was..
Completely omitted to revise the basic hours for the fact that I now only had 17 employees. Can't remember exact figures but this meant that I just said 17 employees x 80 hours = 1360 overtime hours available; then deduct 805 hours already used = 555 still available to use up.
We only needed around 300?? (not sure exact amount) for our extra production so I had loads of hours spare. Whoopee doo - Revised budget no problem. How embarrasing. Feeling pretty stupid, I have to say. Wail.
So what did you all then put for what you should do for your new order? Take on more staff?

Yeah, take on more staff, increase productivity, look at sickness levels etc.

    Reply to Uday,
    Hi,
Well just about everyone that I've spoken to seems to have got your ร‚ยฃ784 (F) in Section 2. Amazingly I managed to get ร‚ยฃ814 (F). Honestly! It couldn't have been more straightforward. What have I done? Did you all get ร‚ยฃ3.50 for VC per unit of semi variable .. um ..Electricity was it?
    & Stepped cost was ร‚ยฃ55K per step x 7.2 steps = ร‚ยฃ440K
Just can't think how I could have got it wrong. Must have transposed a figure.
Feel like I've been on another planet this week.

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

There were basically two sets of answers that the majority of us got.

The first lot got a limiting factor of labour hours. They must have had to recalculate the whole production budget with the new labour hours available.

The second lot of us got no limiting factors. I was one of these. I think it depends on how you read the question. The AAT must surely consider this before marking us down.

    Anyone else agree?

Yes i was in the group that got a limiting factor. i do agree both answers deserve credit. so you not think that if your way was correct then section 1 would have been to straight forward ?

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

No. Since you would have to the caluculations to see whether there is a limiting factor. I guess they are testing if you really know your stuff or are just following a certain format.

I really wish they could post the answers and the papers sooner than they do. They normally put these up in September, and I don't see why need to take this long.

This would certainly stop the anxiety.

Its bad enough that we ave to wait 2 months to get our results.

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

Well, my calculations were right in that I had only 30 hours left after budgeted production. However, I didn't produce the revised production budget properly because I was thinking that we had to produce it based on what we could make, rather than what we needed to make.

As we didn't know which product was more profitable, I didn't know what units to make with the 30 hours to put in the revised production budget. Think I might have stuffed that bit up!

waterfalls i agree it is a nightmare wait. as you say if they just ask the same questions every exam people could pass them from memory of past exams. that is why they change the scenarios so they can see if you really know your stuff.

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

i think it doesnt actually REALLY matter if you got a limiting factor or not - well I suppose it does, but if all you did was didnt go back to the start and recalculate on 17 people then thats using the wrong figure - 20 instead of 17 or vice versa.
So on this point, all you did was use ONE incorrect figure.

The rest of your calculations will be right (whichever the correct way is), so thats ONE figure used in the WRONG place. ONCE..

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

I must admit the labour question caused me the most turmoil. I went back and changed my answers to agree with the labour limiting factor and only 30 hours available. I put that this wasn't really enough time for any meaningful extra production so that could be wrong. My production budget was like other guys said as if you had enough resources but I nearly didn't do it as I thought it was daft.

I put hire agency staff and sub-contract work out as I thought you couldn't change closing stock levels from what the paper said.

It really made me panic but from what everyone has said I wasn't off on one as I thought. I did think they were stinkers for doing it like that but the rest of the paper was easy so that must be why.

Thank god it is over with.

    Torix

I got roughly the same answers as you on this!! And sorry if i sound stupid but how is this wrong!!!??
In reply to section 2, the stepped cost is 55000 * 8 and not 7*2, try and work it out like that and you should get 784 (F).

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

He got the right figure for stepped, as 55000x7.2 = 396, whereas 55000x8 = 440 as she said...this confused me too, but the total figures lostintranslation got were right

    Re:PCR - Limiting Factors

There was a limiting factor of labour, because of the 3 staff that were off, I worked it out without doing this first, and then realised and changed my answer.

I did the revised production budget as if there was enough hours for production, as it did not say which one you were going to make, or ask you to rank them.

I think this will give you sufficiant marks to pass section one, together with a correct production budget, labour budget etc.

    Hi,
I calculated it exactly the same way you did, so it does depend on how you read the question, anyway fingers crossed
