Hi wonder if anyone can help me. I have just completed intermediate stage, and hope to start technician in september. I'm a bit worried about the project as i am not working, so i cant base it on my work, is there anyone who is in the same boat as me who have done the technician stage.

Please let me know.

    There is a case study for people who cannot base their project on work.

    What does that entail. Is it any different to the project that is done by students who are working.

    Hi Aly.

    You are given a case study based on a fictional company. They will give you details of staff, locations, working procedures, etc.

    The requirements are the same as for everyone else.

    Hi Aly,

    If you do the case study you still have to produce a project in the same layout and style with the same content requirement as a work-based project. The only difference is that you will be basing it on a case study supplied as a booklet (it looks like a simulation booklet). Your training provider should get it from the AAT for you. The booklet tells you about a company and its accounts department and gives a diary of events over the course of a year. From this you will need to work out what needs to be improved and make recommendations.

    If you want to start preparing, I would suggest printing off all the guidance notes from this website including all the performance criteria. It might be worth looking up things like SWOT analysis (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) and cost benefit analysis which you need to do. You should be able to find general info like this on the Internet. I used the Osbourne text book and found it quite helpful.

    Obviously you can't start work on the project until you get the case study booklet. When you get the booklet read it through carefully a few times with the performance criteria in mind. Look for the weaknesses in the systems. I started with a SWOT analysis and from that I decided which areas I was going to concentrate on. I found that once I had done this the case study was quite straightforward.

    I remember how daunting it seemed before I started, but I promise that it really isn't as hard as you imagine.
