Hiya all.
I am new to these forums and had an enquiry that may also be a concern for other students pursuing AAT technician this September.

Unit 10 - Ground open up and swallow all us mortals.

Basically I am studying at FTC and how its planned out at my training centre is that we will be starting the unit 10 project in March, which seems rather silly if you ask me considering that would give us only a few months to complete the full project bearing in mind that we will be approaching end of year exams at that time too.

So, My worry is :- I currently don't have a job and can't really guarantee I will land one in the near future (b4 march), I know AAT gives out case studies to unemployed students or those working in non accounting areas. I was thinking of starting it off this summer so to not accumulate all the pressure at the end of the year altogether. .. but where do I begin? What do I base the project on?
Any of you ppl that already have completed unit 10.... any hints and tips?

Anyone want to pass their projects over to me? lol.

    Hi

I am completing the case study (simulation) for my Unit 10 project and found myself in a similar position to yourself. With 2 exams to sit in June, there was no way i could complete the project as well. I read the case study and made brief notes prior to the exam, but am now completing the project as exams are over. My tutor advised me that i have three - four weeks between exams and the deadline to ensure certification in August.

The case study is not too bad either-The BPP UNIT 10 book contains valuable information to assist with the case study report.

    Good luck with Technician

I wasn't employed in an accounting job when I did my project and I was told that I could do the simulation but was told I might find it easier if I could find something else to do. I was told to look at things like friends / families with own businesses etc. I approached a few local charities (like the local play group and sports clubs) and explained what I was doing and why and did they want a "free" report done on any area of their business function. In the end I did it on a local museum looking at computerising their manual systems. I nearly found it interesting!

Sounds great, good experience doing it on a real accounts system rather than a paper one! Something to add to your CV.

    Hi,

I did the case study as also unemployed. I started mine in about march time and worked really hard for a month to get it finished and signed off, so i could concentrate on my exams. I found this the easiest way as i couldn't really revise as we didn't finish the syllabus until late may. I was quite luckly that i was able to look at some past projects so i knew which direction to go in. Once you start the project it isn't that bad, providing you have a good tutor who isn't to picky.

Hope this helps and good luck with the tech level.

    Re:AAT Technician this September?

I'm commencing Technician level this september, and my tutor has given me the case study and project to do over the summer so that it's done ready for September and then we can concentrate on studying.

We'll see how it works out.
