    Hi

The AAT qualification has 3 levels.

Foundation - 6 months to complete

    Imtermediate - 1 year approx.

    Tachnician - 18 months approx.

If you have already studied accountancy, you probably will not need to do foundation, as it is basically a bookeeping course.

I would recommend FTC KAPLAN as a training provider, you can do it as an apprentice I believe, you can do evening course or day course.

You will require funding for the course you decide to take.

    Regards,

    James.

Dito what the other entry said, but I would also like to say avoid BPP like the plague. Although the teaching level is excellent the administration leaves a lot to be desired. Some of our BPP teachers left to go to FTC this year so the teaching at FTC will be second to none.

Also the AAT qualification is great fun to do. I know that sounds like a strange this do say, but I am really enjoying it. I would recommend studying at a professional learning centre rather than a college as these places really train you well. :)

I think the teaching at BPP must vary centre by centre. A friend of mine came from FTC and found the BPP notes and books and teaching far superior to FTC.

The teaching is very good at BPP, but it is the administration of the courses and marking of simulations which lets BPP down

    Hi

Id say the taught course at BPP are fantastic (though it probably varies from centre to centre) but the distance learning course admin is less than trust inspiring!

As for time to complete, some colleges offer each level over a year, others vary and might offer technician over 2 years. It also depends on the attendence pattern - part-time, full-time or distance learning.

If you want to go to university though, AAT isnt reallly aimed at being an entry qualification to uni. However, some universities offer credit towards relevant degrees, ranging from exemtion from hallf or all of the first year.

I don't know how much it costs with BPP.
I managed to get straight onto my intermediate course at my local college. This was due to the fact that I have done a bookkeeping course already, (for these check out AAT, ICB, IAB websites)
As I was on a very low income at the time I got the course for free.
It was a fast track course so I did it Jan to June, and then I can start technician in september. So all in all it will only take 18 months to complete.
Plus you can do it whilst working - meaning you don't land yourself in university debt and you gain valuable experience aswell!
You can go straight from AAT into many other accountancy qualifications check out the ACCA, CIMA, ACA, IFA, CIPFA websites. The sky is the limit!!

I actually do intend to go to university next Autumn, after I finish the Technician level.

I was at the de Montfort University (in Leicester) open day last week, and one of their senior accounting lecturers told me that they regularly take people who have just finished the AAT directly onto the second year of Accounting and Finance, where they tend to do very well. He put this down to the tendency for AAT members to be little more mature than most applicants, and their experience in work. (I'm twenty-two)

Oxford Brookes gave me a similar response, as did Essex (in Colchester).

If it is something you're considering, check out this section of the website:
