Local Help Needed to Progress and Expand

I have a busy little business in my area with 2 part time staff. I do bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and accounts for small businesses. I would like to expand to small limited companies and do a little more tax. I passed income tax 2 years ago and have just done business tax. I need some supervision though. Is there anyone reasonable local that I could pay to help me with day to day queries? eg Someone walked in yesterday and wanted me to set up a limited company, with shares, shareholders agreements, etc and I had to turn him away. I haven't got the confidence to do it without help. Local accountants don't want to know because I'm competition.

Re:Local Help Needed to Progress and Expand
I live in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. As far as I am aware, I'm the only AAT technician here, so I wouldn't be treading on any one's toes. At the moment, the accountant I work with takes all the real money whilst I do all the donkey work - VAT, bookkeeping, payroll, etc. He's not going to want to train me up because he will lose out.0 -

Hi Jacqueline,
I have read a few of your posts it sounds like you are doing really well.
My family live in Neath but I moved to near Heathrow when i married as that is where my husband lived and worked. He has his own engineering business and at that time there was a lot of unemployment in Wales.
I like living here though but go back to stay with my family at least once a month for a weekend and spend nearly all the school hols. there.
They have a farm and Aberavon beach is not far away my kids love it.
Good luck in all your endevours,
Sarah Smith
p.s. I do the "books" for my hubby and until recently did the bookeeping for a small ltd. catering co.
I am about to advertise for more clients.0 -
Re:Local Help Needed to Progress and Expand
Hi Jacqueline,
With regards to setting up a limited company for clients, have you thought of using a company formation agent?
This is the way we form companies at my place of work, then we recharge our clients. It may be worth contacting some formation agents, putting procedures in place so that if this situation occurs again, you will be able to form the company. I'm sure the agents will be helpful and give you guidence if you form the company through them.
Also, have you tried persudaing the accounting you work with that proper training will improve your skills and make you more efficient, and therefore earn both of you more money. If you put it across that he will benefit, he may be more likely to support you.
Good luck, hope you business continues to grow (and hope you start to benefit more!)

Re:Local Help Needed to Progress and Expand
Thanks, Sarah.Try getting in touch with any local govt agencies who give free advice in your area. I got in touch with Venture Wales when I first set up in business. They gave me 3 years free help. The business advisor was great and gave me nearly all my clients. He just referred all new start up businesses he was dealing with to me. I would never have made it to begin with, without his help. It was all free!
