OK - I want to submit my own tax return online - do I need to complete a 64-8 for myself, naming myself as my own agent? :?

Also to change the subject very slightly I have just got cross with someone at HMRC as I rang to see where a client's refund had got to, and was told that if it the tax return is submitted 45 days before POA is due, they don't automatically issue refunds - I pointed out that it was not very fair to the client - their's and mine I pointed out - they now wont guarantee refund in time for 31 July

Just spoken to PTP who provide my software, and apparently HMRC have now done away with 64-8 to be able to file online - maybe that is as a result of them taking so long to process them.....

I see you already found the answer.

Its because people don't actually need an agent to file their self assessment returns.

    Same applies to online filing.

The rules have only just changed though - before to file online you either had to have a 64-8 or an online filing authorisation - now you can do anyone's - so less fretting over all my missing 64-8s which currently stands at 11, which is not bad compared to some days!

well that's good news - no more frantically trying to manually calculate tax liabilities on the 29th January :D

but yes, i did feel like a right tit submitting a 64-8 for myself, and then the revenue responded to it by asking whether I want to act for myself regarding child tax credits as well!!! *sigh*
