Hello fellow AAT People,
Could somebody please tell me when is the latest time that I may register as a student with CIMA? I saw a Technician Study-Buddy today who thought that the date had been and gone....panic!!!??? I have had a brief look on the CIMA website and got the impression that nothing can be done until I obtain proof of my qualification (fingers crossed).
Can anybody please advise me?

Re:When is the latest date for registering with CIMA?
As far as i know i think its the 31st July for registering. Think they have an arrangement with AAT whereby they send a copy of your results to Cima (you instruct AAT to do this). But im sure the final registration date was 31st July.
Forgive me if I'm wrong0 -
Re:When is the latest date for registering with CIMA?
CIMA/AAT websites both say that 31st July was the deadline for registering for CIMA to permit entry to CIMA's November exam sessiion. However, it may be worth giving CIMA a call as Cert. exemptions can't be applied till AAT results are forwarded.
If you don't want to do the Nov. exams, it probably doesn't matter when you register but it's probably better to wait for AAT results first as CIMA won't give a refund of fees if you haven't passed all Tech. items.
Hope that helps. I've spent alot of time researching the transition possibilities if you need more info.0 -
Re:When is the latest date for registering with CIMA?
I have found the last couple of years quite stressful doing the AAT and hopefully the next few hours will confirm completion of the technician level. I got quite confused regarding CIMA and how long it took to complete and what areas you recieve exemption from after completing the Technician level, if at all any?
Can anyone clarify exactly what I would have to take and the length of time it would take to complete.
If anyone knows of any courses and costs for CIMA this would be helpfull. I live in Scunthorpe this is in North Lincolnshire, nearby towns/ citys are LINCOLN, DONCASTER, HULL, GRIMSBY.
good luck and fingers crossed for all those who are waiting on results!!!
Many thanks0 -
Re:When is the latest date for registering with CIMA?
Hi
If you havent registered with CIMA allrady then DO NOT register untill the new year. CIMA charge an annual fee of £50+ for membership which will expire on 31st December regardless of the time of the year when you register. CIMA require registration and the receipt of AAT Intermediate certificates by 31st July for you to sit the November exams and hence if you register now then you will just have to repay the annual fee in the new year before sitting exams in May.
If however you are able to phone CIMA and re-negotiate the deadline then go for it! Just make sure you ask who you are talking to0 and try and get the conversation in writing.
Dont forget that to become ACCA qualified you need three years experience working for a firm of chartered accountants, where as with CIMA it is more flexible - you can have three years accounts experience in industry / government / retail etc. as long as certain criteria are met.
Hope this helps

That's not true, to gain an ACCA practicing certificate you need work experience signed off by an approved employer but to become a member you need 3 years by your employer. They prefer the employer to be a qualified accountant but will accept qualified by experience. I have friends in industry who have become members and never set foot in a chartered accountancy practice.0
