Fuel Scale Charges - something different!

A client has traded in petrol 3000cc car for diesel 1999cc car midway through his VAT period.
Can I just (pretty please!) time apportion his fuel scale charge? If so, is it to the month, week or day?
My gut instinct is to do it to the nearest week, but would welcome any definitive knowledge.
God forbid that I have to inform HMRC as they are not my favourite friends who have conveniently lost a clients penultimate VAT return (large rebate as ceased trading!), so I have now got to submit a 652 even though I have not made an error - grrrrrrr

Think of it in the revenue's eyes, what would they want to happen! Always a good starting point
I would suggest that you would round to the nearest month as that is the smallest published rates.
If its one week into the new quarter, round up to one month, then use two months a the diesel scale charge.

Re:Fuel Scale Charges - something different!
I probably could have done it alot simpler  but I worked out what each car would have been for the whole 1/4 and divided by the number of days (92!) then multiplied each car by the no of days actually used during the 1/4 then worked out what it should have been and then journalled back the difference! And then I hit the bottle
