Hi

This is actually just a question for someones opinion!

If anyone has studied any of the above two topics, how easy are they to get through, and are they fairly quick to study and get the sims out the way?

Which one would you say would be the easiest?

Opinions appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi KMCole

I did Cash Management - net present value, discounted cashflows, etc. Was quite straightforward.

I did Cash Management, and it was easiest thing out of it all I thought

Which of the topics do you think would be of more use to you or doesn't it matter which one? I did Cash Management and it was straightforward - not too stressy.

    Hi

It doesn't really matter which topic I cover. I just wanted other students views on how they found the different subjects.

    Thanks

I did them both and they are quite straightforward. Sims were not too complicated. I found auditing a little dull but that's just my opinion.

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

I have done both too (or I will have done, I am sitting the sim soon).

I do agree with Jackie that Auditing is boring to read but I personally I think it should be a compalsuary unit at AAT.

It brings all your business knowledge together and is a really useful tool. A lot of Auditing is done in everyday situations when preparing accounts, but you probably don't know you're even doing it.

    I say do both :D

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

I did cash manamgement and would agree it is the easiest technician unit.

For audit I went to the lessons but as I am an auditor I submitted a portfolio in place of sitting the sim. I went to the lessons as I still learnt about external audit.

I would agree with Dean that although ut comes across dull (depends on the teacher) all should have to do it.

Another thing to bear in mind is that if you wanted to do Cipfa you can only take the fasttrack route if you take these two modules instead of the taxation.

One last point they are sims instead of exams so do not have to wait as long for results.

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

I did audit because it was most appropriate to my experience and my current job.

I think because of that, I found it interesting (unlike most students) which my tutor thought was sad (we share a good sense of humour!).

I have done both with FTC. Both very straight forward. But Audit was easier

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

i did both cash and auditing while studying towards ecr before june and both are reletivly easy auditing is pretty much common sense for the whole unit an cash is a bit on preparing a budget and lots of information on managing cash , gilts, overdrafts, loans etc

id say do both it worth a try and give you a higehr chance of passing the more of the options you take the less change of failing if you dont pass one of the optional units

hi, i would like to find out more about taking both the cash management and auditing skills tests, does this mean i would not study and take any exams in taxation?

    edit!

    You're right Chris.

Ignor what I said about the tax units. Although I do think that at least one Tax paper should be a "core" paper.

Since when did we have to study a tax unit? You might want to tell me college this as they're not teach either of the tax units to evening class students

Surely it's any two from the four options.

hi again, as you said it is any 2 units from that group of 4 which is what i thought. what i am a bit concerned about is whether as a student i and any others doing to the 2 sims will be disadvantaged in anyway by not having any knowledge of taxation? whilst it sounds great to do 2 sims and only 3 exams i feel like i'm cheating abit by not doing 4 exams. if that makes sense....

    Hi

Intermediate struggler, I see what you are saying about the 'cheating issue' but the same could be said about cash management. It might be one of the easiest units, but it may still be new to a lot of students and the topics covered in it are what some would consider essential knowledge anyway - this is why it is a core unit on the diploma pathway.

Maybe the AAT should have devloped a general tax unit for the diploma, whihc would remove options alltogether from the diploma route. I work in industry and a general tax unit would be more relvant then either of the current options.

No you wont be at a disadvantage, as you will pick up tax in your further studies, however if you arent going on I would do tax.

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

In my evening classes, we studied DFS and Costing to December exams. Then we studied both tax units with one teacher and the other made us study Auditing as we had done all the costing (he needed to teach us something in order to get paid).
I passed Auditing (really quite easy, common sense, etc) and so I did not have to pass both tax units (In fact, I failed BTC).
I believe this is an unusal way of handling technician, but I am now back for my re-take of DFS and have the chance to do cash management as well, if I wish.

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

the 3 options i have to decide from are:

    1) December - PEV and PTC
June - BTC, DFS and PCR

    2) December - PEV
    January - CMCC
    May - Auditing
    June - DFS and PCR

    3) December - PEV and PCR
    May - CMCC
    June - DFS and BTC

can i have your thoughts and views on what you'd choose given the choice

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

I would say it depends how good you are at exams and how much time you have to dedicate.

What do you intend to do after AAT??

Exams are ok. I have been fortunate enough to pass foundation and intermediate all first time. I get day release to attend college and do commit spare time to study too. Probably won't take the studies any further after AAT.

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

Its a hard decision. As for interviews no one will ever ask you what options you have done in your AAT.

They will just see that you have completed your AAT.

But depending on your role and what you intend to do it may be worth doing some Tax

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

    Hi

In my employment i was required by them to take the two tax units. Although due to me wanting to qualify as soon as possible i took all of the 4 units including Auditing and Cash Managment which i found very straight forward. I did

    Sept - Dec = PEV & PCR
Dec - Feb = Cash Managment
Jan - Apr = Auditing ( 1 Hour per week)
Feb - June = DFS, PTC and BTC.

I found that by doing this i did not put myself under the pressure of having to pass all of the last exams. I failed BTC but and am retaking in December but already have gained Membership.

    Re:Cash Management or Audit Procedures

    Hi

I found that PEV/PCR was just really hard. I studied it from Jan to June and also attended a revision weekend (Sandy Hood) and still struggled. I think it will depend on whether you understand things like variances and ratios - it just wasn't my thing, but it is passable.

    Best wishes
