So i've finished my foundation year, recently went back to the college i sat my first year to enrol for intermidiate only to be told that they won't be doing it, great!!!
Anyway rang round a few college's found the one i prefered, costs etc.. only to be told that i meet the criteria for government funding, so my intermidiate year i can do and is going to be fully funded...
Some of you may already no about this, i just thought it was bizarre...
Anyone think something fishy???

Re:Get This...
hi,
i've just finished foundation and my course was funded by the welsh assembly they paid for everything except for my registration fee, the only catch was i had to do keyskills as extra work(communication and numeracy). wasn't to bad doing the extra work but still an added stress you could do without so definetly worth checking if there are any such conditions with your funding.

Re:Get This...
hey guys,
how did you find out that you could get funding for your course as i'm looking into this but not having any luck :roll:0 -
Re:Get This...
To be honest i wasn't even looking for funding..
When i was made to ring round college's due to my usual college not holding the course, the college administrator gave me a number to ring.
I think the funding i am recieving is only applicable to the college i am attending but, i am enroling with her tommorrow so when i no more details i will let you no.0 -
Re:Get This...
I've heard of this before - I study with BPP and there is something like this with them, but I think you have to be working full time and be under a certain age, 23/24 I think.
Call your local colleges and ask if they know anything about it.0 -
Re:Get This...
What you guys are talking about is the govt funded Modern Apprenticeship. To be eligible you must be working in accounting and be able to complete NVQ3 before the age of 25. At my college we pay all the costs for the trainee (including AAT registration and exam fees). This may not be the same for all colleges. You may or may not be able to have the funding extended to cover the Technician level. As part of the Modern Apprenticeship it is necessary to also do some Key Skills.
Amielh. No I don't think that there is something fishy in your story. We actually get a lot more money for a Modern Apprentice than for a "normal" student so it is in colleges interests to sign people up as MAs if they can. Mind you, for us to get the money, the student does have to pass............0 -
Re:Get This...
I enrolled at my local college last year. I paid all the fee's that they asked for.
Then at my 1st lesson, the tutor came upto me and said that i could be a M.A. I was exempt from the Key Skill as i have alrdy completed 3 NVQ lvl 3 which included the key skills.
They refunded all my paid fee's and paid for books etc.
They are keeping me on the M/A programme so the intermediate stage is fully paid for aswell.
To be eligable for the M.A programme, u have to be in fully time work in accountancy and must be signed up ready to start before your 25th birthday.0 -
Re:Get This...
With regards to modern apprentice funding, this varies from college to college and also varies with location.....,i know of colleges that accept apprentices up to the age of 22. My first college didnt tell me i was eligible, but my second college did.
Another thing to consider with the modern apprenticeship is the key skills modules. If you have relevant A-level's or GCSE's you may get exemptions from these as well....I did0 -
Re:Get This...
I'm way too old for an MA, but my college offers a wide range of bursaries and grants under different schemes. I get a bursary for half my fees as I work for a small (miscroscopic) business but I have to pay up and then get the money back. If you're unemployed your entire fees are waived.

Re:Get This...
There are various funding options such as:
Modern Apprenticeship funding varies from area to area and to find out who offers it and the criteria you should contact either ElWA in Wales or LSC (Learning and Skills Council) in England. Search for them on the web.
At our centre we could offer:
Funding for 16-24 years if you live and work in England. 16 plus if you live and work in Wales. (Subject to meeting other criteria).
We also have learners funded by ELWA (Wales) through their REACT scheme (i think from memory). These are learners who have recently been made redundant and want to reskill to get a job. It has worked a treat for people who even want a change of career. They have been re-employed with months. One learner commented that she only got the job, desite being experienced because she is studying AAT!
Also, Job Centre Plus have funded a number of learners at our centre who are working.
On Merseyside there are schemes for small to medium enterprises too which your employer will need to investigate.
If your employer is an Investors in People organisation they sometimes can receive funding from their local manager of Investors in People. such as Business Link...particularly in Wales. The Welsh Assembly (ELWA changes are in progress)are very good at supporting learning.
Another option is ILA Wales (Individual Learning Account, Wales)
The above is by no means exhaustive
I have to say it is shocking how many people come to our training centre who have paid for a previous level because they have simply not been informed that schemes are available at their college.
I recommend you contact Learn Direct, LSC, ELWA, Job Centre Plus, Business Link, Chamber of Commerce and this list is not exhaustive! AAT used to have a list on this site of orgs that might be able to help.
Good luck in your search...

Re:Get This...
So does anyone think i'd be eligiable for funding?
Im 19 studying foundation with BPP and am working full time as a finance manager.
I mean my company pay the costs currently except the registration fees with AAT, im sure my boss looked into it and for some reason i werent eligable but i cant see why???
Does ur salary play a part? Im currently on 19K
Thanks

Re:Get This...
Not sure about salary Sam.
I seem to think it doesnt as my college never asked me how much i was earning0 -
Re:Get This...
Salary doesn't come into it. I suspect that BPP - being a private training organisation isn't sable to access these funds.0 -
Re:Get This...
Hi all
I'm in charge of the funding at BPP London at present. We are sub contracted by a different organisation that has quite strict criteria on who is eligible:
You need to be -
Living withing the M25
Under the age of 21 (if 22 - 24 then its case by case)
Working in a finance related role
If you fit this and would like to know more then please email me katieusmar@bpp.com.
Thanks

Re:Get This...
You can also be eligable for government assisted funding in the uk if you earn under (i think its) £12,000. They will pay a large proportion of your fees. You still have to pay a small amount towards it but hey, its still great if you was thinking of doing the course and funding it anyway!!0
