Hi everyone i'm new to this forum I just wondered if anyone would reccomend going in at intermediate level?

I have 1 years accounts experience at AS level - understanding of double entry, books of prime entry, P&L, B/S, Trial balance, bank reconcilliations, manufacturing accounts, control accounts, accounting ratios, VAT, depreciation and other stuff.
I got a C but could have revised more for a better grade.

Would I be ok entering at Intermediate level as long i studied hard?

Thanks

Without knowing the ins and outs of the AS level accounting syllabus, I would say that you've more than enough skills there to go straight in at Intermediate.

heh when i enrolled in AS level accounts i thought 'this is gonna be a breeze'

    oh how wrong i was!

the syllabus for AS level IMO was huge including accounting ratios, suspense accounts, cash flow forecasting and also the above i listed.
There was some pretty tough stuff in there and still a little that i dont understand.

I am worried and wondered if i could keep up in intermediate level?

If you have a real grasp of debits and credits, then I would have thought that starting at intermediate would be fine - oh - and you like numbers 8)

    Some things i learnt...

    Debit the account that recieves.
    Credit the account that gives.
^^^are they right? double entry rules?

time to refresh my memory: my trial balance

    Dr...................Cr
    Purchases....| Sales
    Assets.......| Liabilities
    Expenses.....| Capital
    Sales Returns| Purchase Returns
    Debtors......| Creditors

    ^^^Is this correct?

Please say ive still got it :D

you will be absolutely fine!! be confident in your ability! I went straight in at intermediate with less experience of accounting than you have! I passed both exams in June and am starting technician in September. As long as you're prepared to put the work in like anyone else you will have no porblems!! Best of luck with the year.

    Hey there,

I started at intermediate level with no accounting background and I managed to pass all exams and skills test first time.

You do need to do work outside the class to be successful.

    Good luck Em

    Re:Going Straight in at Intermediate

You are not alone I've joined at Intermediate level! All I had done was a basic pitmans (city and guilds) book keeping 10 week course - I went to an AAT taster session to ask the same question. I do feel that there is a bit of gap in my knoweledge especially as I am the only one in the class that hasn't done foundation, but with doing extra work outside of class I feel as though I'm keeping up with them. Good luck :)
