Can anyone tell me, how the above compares with AAT. We have a guy at work who is studying the above and claiming it a superior qualification to the AAT??? Thanks.

I would be interested to know how it is superior to AAT?

Ask him why it is superior, especially when AAT can become a member in practice doing tax returns etc as well as bookeeping?

    He's talking bobbins.

According to their website their level 3 is euivalent to NVQ 3/4, which is technician level. But thats at the very most.

I havent seen any of the chartered associations offering any exemptions to this institute, I would think thats a fairly good test.

Years ago I had a guy come to see me to give me some details of their qualification.

That's why I did the AAT.

    Hi

Their Level 3 qualifications are approved at level three on the National Qualifications Framework, which means they are comparable to other level 3 qualifications (i.e. AAT Intermediate/Advanced Certifictae), i would be rather suspect of them comparing it to a level 4 NVQ. What you need to keep in mind is that a level is based on the educational/training level of the qualification and not the quantity of study required for the qualification. For example, BTEC National DIplomas are at level 3 and usually take 2 years full-time, whereas AAT intermediate can be done in 1 year part-time.

Generally the IAB qualifications are concerned with book-keeping and financial accounting, AAT has wider scope and covers all main areas of accounting. The IAB is respected as is the ICB but it is not superior to the AAT in either content or level of study. It's worth noting that the IAB is the junior body of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA). The IFA's associate membership is deemed (by the IFA) to be equivalent to the AAT qualification.

Ask you IAB collegue to pur together a full set of cost variances and then put together the cost reconcilliation statement followed by a basic investment appraisal, im sure he'll need to by some AAT texts for that!

    Hi

I have got both IAB and AAT and in just pure knowledge terms AAT is far superior as it gives you an overall knowledge of all aspects of accounts procedures, but the IAB is more book-keeping based and I have to be quite honest did not open any doors for me not like the AAT qualification.

I've never seen IAB as a requirement for a job on any adverts.

Ive got both IAB and AAT and agree with Eva that on a personal base I think that AAT is more superior. A lot of people haven't even heard of the IAB
