December Exam Entry

Hi All,

I received a letter from the AAT on Saturday - inside was leaflets and en exam entry form for the December Exams.
Having just enrolled for the Foundation Course last week, i'm guessing I shouldn't be entering any exams just yet.
Any ideas as to why I would have recieved this, are they expecting me to go into the December Exams?!?

Do I need to phone anyone and let them know I received this letter or does every member of the AAT get it?

Cheers Guys / Girls.
Jamie

I'm in the same boat. I only started 2 weeks ago. You should contact your tutor for advice

As Scotty already said, every AAT member gets them. No doubt it's administratively cheaper to just mail shot the entire AAT membership than it would be to manually exclude those people where it's not relevant.

Since you're just starting at Foundation level, your main PLB "central" exam won't be until June 2007 anyway. Until then, just get your heads down and enjoy it!

I thought the same when I started foundation last year. They automatically send december entry forms when you pay your membership fee! As stated previously you will not take you central assessment until June 07!! You will receive more entry forms for that.

Well, obviously I can't be 100% certain, but still 99% sure that you WON'T be sitting your central exam in December if you've only just started in September! There are four skills tests/simulations to do first - November, February, March and May if I remember rightly - before your June central, so if you can manage to do all five exams in the next three months, then good luck!!!

I think you have either been misinformed or the person may have actually been referring to one of your skills tests/simulation exams, rather than the June biggie! :-)

    Re:December Exam Entry

Some colleges will enter their students for the December Central Assessment, then do the Skills Tests in the New Year.

You need confirmation that you are indeed sitting in December so you can beat the deadline fo rentering.

    Re:December Exam Entry

Just curious, but how would that work at Foundation Scotty? I'll be doing DFS in December, but that's because we won't be studying much else between now and then.

Since Foundation is essentially one subject only, how could they teach it in the first three months, then presumably have little left afterwards to do apart from the skills tests and projects? To me, this is like opening your Christmas presents on December the 1st!

This seems quite common, but I don't quite get the point of doing the central exam first without the "ingrained learning" while having the 'mocks/simulations/skills tests' left incomplete at the end. I guess my own college just has a different way of teaching AAT.

    Re:December Exam Entry

How many hours a week do you study? I did three evening hours a week from September until about March, so I imagine if you're doing more hours, the course would be shorter pro-rata.

I guess doing it in December also allows you a second bite in June should the worst happen!

    Good luck!

    Re:December Exam Entry

Even doing 6 hours a week it seems rather odd to me to be doing the exam so soon. I assume your college knows what it's doing but I really don't see the rationale for doing it that way. To me, it would appear to make life more difficult.

    Re:December Exam Entry

I agree with you on this Chris. As I said previously, it does seem rushed and quite odd to me to sit the main exam before the mocks, but I trust/hope his/her college knows what they're doing!! Failing the exam so early will not only unnecessarily waste the student's money, but will undoubtedly be soul destroying and may even put them off AAT training altogether.

This is a one year course for most colleges, so sitting the biggie after a mere three months is quite bizarre...

We all know you can learn too much too quickly and remember none of it. I much preferred my Foundation stage being paced slowly as it allowed plenty of time for the knowledge to sink in. Everyone passed, so the college must have done something right!

    Which college are you at?

And are we talking about the PLB exam being the big one?

and would there be another Exam for me to do next June? I thought there would maybe be one in December and then another in June..

    Re:December Exam Entry

There's only one exam at Foundation, the majority of assessment is by skills tests and/or work based evidence. So yep, PLB is the biggie.

    Re:December Exam Entry

well it makes me wonder what il be doing after xmas then, as I seem to have a series of mocks and exams all in december!

From what I have wrote down, I have the PLB exam December 5th and then mocks/skill test December 11-14th. Doesnt really make sense at all!! :?

    Re:December Exam Entry

Good God, confused, surely there's no way on earth that can possibly be right!!!

The biggie - the PLB - is scheduled for three hours, though it never takes that long as it's so easy. It's normally sat in the June following your September enrollment. The skills tests/simulations/mocks are interspersed throughout the school year, are also over three hours each too and much tougher. They test your knowledge up to that point much deeper than the biggie does, and can be real pigs. To do each on consecutive days AFTER the biggie would seem completely pointless.

You must be mistaken... I doubt even that punishing a schedule could be done by us who are well past foundation level and it makes no sense at all!

    Re:December Exam Entry

    Hi

Think I now know why I am sitting my PLB exam so early, I did not realise that I was on a fast track course. the evenings were the only lessons I could take because I could not get a day release.

No wonder I am struggling, what with having to do units 1,2& 3 plus the mocks and simulations and the PLB exam, all by December. I only started last month!!
