Ok, I have registered with the ACCA course after completing the AAT in Uni rather than a private college, due to a financial probs. On my first day I bought a cup of coffee and popped in to the uni and i was expecting a nice welcome but wasn’t, security man told me to go to floor x turn right and so on to class x. Then popped in to the class as usual as an aat classes after my hard work, but stunned as no one was speaking, and most of them wearing suits and so… and no teacher though, well I sad in a corner and waited. 30 min later a teacher came in, whom seems newer than me as he was lost in the building, for while, said sorry im a bit late, I work in Uni x and said I was looking for a password for x…yeb. And said the ACCA exams are by no mean easy, so u got to work hard. And The next thing was straight in to the lecture without knowing any thing about the Uni . Then about 1/4h from the end of the lecture there was sound of fire alarm belling all round the building (typical old Victorian house alarm), quickly about to grab my belongings to escape, one of the class mates studied before there told us this is end of class bell, then I have relaxed a bit and found my coffee was on about 4c from 100c when walked in. oh dear I don’t know how is gonna be next lecture.

You got further than I did!

Like you, I passed my AAT and decided I wanted to take the next step. So I went to an open evening at a local college where they were offering ACCA courses.

But everyone was wearing suits and looked totally pristine! That scared me off and I decided that home study was for me.

But now I have a dilemna. I have bought my first home study package for ACCA. But when I told my boss he said that CIMA is the better route to go. How did you decide to go ACCA? I don't know what to do right now.

I must admit i'm a bit puzzled to. I want to do CIMA as I prefer working in industry but it seems to me looking at the high end job adverts that with ACCA you can work in industry or practice and thus is the safer bet.

My ACCA didn't get off to that great a start either - enrolled in FTC couple of weeks before the course started. Got there, and the classroom was really packed - they hadn't actually enrolled a lot of people onto their systems (including me), so they hadn't booked a big enough room. The course content is really tough, and I emailed the tutor a question, as we were encouraged to do if we got stuck. One week on and no response, so not best pleased considering the cost of the course. Just hope it gets better soon!

I decided on ACCA instead of CIMA as the CIMA course modules didn't appeal to me as much. I've been told it doesn't really matter which you go for, so go for the one you feel looks more interesting.
