I have just completed AAT Intermediate. If I complete the Technician level, can I then be classed as an Accountant, and will I be eligible to do small business accounts, if so to what level.

Hi Camille.
After completing Technician level you will be a qualified Accounting Technician, and can apply for full membership and get your practising certificate.
You can already prepare accounts as long as you don't refer to the AAT. You should only take on work that you are competent to do.

Hi
In the UK anyone can call theselves an accountant, regardless of qualification or not. However, being an accountant is also defined by what one does.

I think that we are back to the accountant with or without a capital letter again!
As Neil says anyone can call themselves an accountant, however an Accountant suggests that someone is a chartered or certified accountant - us mere mortals are just
accounting technicians!
I know of various people without a qualification to their name who call themselves accountants (and probably with a capital A as well!).
There is talk of the accountancy profession being regulated, so that only qualified people can call themselves accountants, but where that would leave us AATs no-one knows, and the AAT themselves have made no comment about it.
