Hi

Has anyone else received their bureau copy of Sage Line 50 2007 yet?

I chased mine up two weeks ago and still haven't received it.

I also didnt receive my club copy until I found out others had received it the week before, so I chased it up and they sent it.

I'm trying to find out if the reason I havent got the bureau copy is because it hasnt been released or whether I've been forgotten again!

Sue

One of my clients uses sage & while we're not waiting for any updates, they have supposedly posted out 3 copies of an invoice & 2 copies of a credit note, none of which have arrived!

Could be problems with their post system?

Up until very recently I use to recommend Sage to people and in particular my Account Manager, but I've started to find him less helpful and I've noticed he doesnt read my emails. It's put me off recommending him now!

I'm so pleased that this client's year end is in 3 days time because once that's over with I'm moving everything over to quickbooks - sage have been absolutly useless, constantly trying to sell me products that they don't need (payroll for 300 employees when they've only got 2, for example) and it's taken 9 months of chasing and still no invoices/credit notes have arrived, just demands for payment.

    rant over!

What do you think of quickbooks? When I looked at it it didn't seem to have the same capability as Sage, but I think it could have been the basic version.

Has your Client got Sage cover? If so I think they should be able to sign in on the website and get copies of invoices.

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

I think quickbooks is really really good - I've got the full accountant's version with integrated payroll. I think it cost £450, and then the payroll is £100 per year, but it does everything.
I've only been using older versions of sage, so things may have improved on newer versions, but I find QBs reporting way better - it's so easy to customise reports & also to export them to excel. It's much easier than sage to amend data (which probably isn't such a good thing if lots of people are working on the same client, but it's great when it's just me!) and there's a little 'help box' in the corner that talks you through how to use each feature that you're on.

And yes, my client does have sage cover, thanks for telling me about the website - of course the twit I've been speaking to at sage has never told me that!

    Thankss :)

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

Perhaps I'll look into quickbooks again when my Sage cover runs out. I did ring them a while ago because one of my client wanted me to try it for them, but they said they didnt have a demo copy they could send and I was a bit concerned about buying it after what I had seen previously.

You might find the Sage website doesnt get you any further, I've just tried logging in to test it and the website crashed! I tried logging in as an accountant then selected my accounts correspondence and thats when it crashed, but I guess for you it will be slightly different because your client will need to sign into the Customer Area. I've attached the link for you below.

The other thing I tried before I knew about accessing the account on line was emailing the address on the statement mcr.queries@sage.com and they posted me a copy of the invoice straight away.

Thanks for your help, I don't have all the details here but I'll try it on Friday when I'm at the client's office.

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

I use Quickbooks Accountant 2006 with small business payroll it cost £509 incl p&p and VAT and it is excellent.
So easy to use, loads of help available and updates available to download online.

I am definately a QB convert from Sage, I found Sage too expensive and unhelpful when it came to resolving queries.

The email address for my contact at sage is Paul.Maguire@sage.com but he has let me down a few times recently!

Michelle - Is the Quickbook Accountant the bureau version?

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

I've only just picked up on this thread but I'd like to have my say about Sage as it seems everyone is having similar problems to me.
I have received an upgrade to 2007 for my Client Manager, but not for my single company Accountants Club copy - do I need two separate upgrades?
If I check out my account on the website it appears I don't have sagecover on my accountants copy  Eh??!
I recently asked to change my account manager. My ageing brain could not keep up with the fast talking, tech savvy, strongly accented, over enthusiatic sales pitch of my (probably teenaged) account manager. The new guy tries really hard, but he seems to be up against the poor organisational structure of the rest of the company. And no, he doesn't give away any more information that he absolutely has to!

Other gripes - the narratives on their invoices are not always correct, the telephone support wait times are getting longer (although the services is great when you get through), they won't let me move my Directory listing from "Find and Acccountant" to "Find a Bookkeeper" (which is what I do), they booked me on a well publicised web seminar, then failed to fun it (morning wasted), they need to change the tapes on their hold music.

And why won't they give me something else for free instead of the free payroll software which is of no use to me at all!

Some people I know seem to get really good service from their Account Managers. I have a new trick - if I hear of some one else getting a service I would like, I ring up and tell them - then I get it too

Trouble is, I like using Sage. I don't like QB very much and Winweb partners will have to start paying for the service next year.

So I'm sticking with Sage, and hopefully I'll learn how to work the system.

    Hi Sheelagh

I've got the other way round I've received my club copy but not the bureau copy, which of course means I can't install it, because I need multi company.

I had a quick look at the bookkeeping club, but I noticed you only get a licence for 10 companies on the bureau software, which isnt enough for me. Have you ever had any response to your 'find an accountant' I haven't?

I haven't got Sage cover on my accountant's copy, but your club cover should cover everything. I did a deal to get the upgrade on the accountants copy, because I said otherwise I was going to wait until the new version came out! My cover runs out in March, so I'm going to re consider everything then.

    Hi Sue

I don't think my QB is a bureau version.
At least I can't find anywhere that says whether it is or isn't.

    Michelle

Ps Where I sub contract they have only received their club copy of the Sage upgrade. Sage insist the client manager copy has been sent but it has not been received. :(

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

    Hi Sue

I thought the bookkeepers client manager was only for 5 companies.
I've had a couple of responses from the Find an Accountant, but not surprisingly, they were from people looking for accountants and I had to pass the work on  . Yes, I know I'm qualified, but I just prefer to work on the bookkeeping and financial control.

Doing a deal - I find Sage are very receptive to doing "deals". It's always worth a try if they have something you want

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

    Hi

Perhaps it was 5 companies for the bookkeeping version, I know I noticed it wasnt enough for me, so I didnt really read it properly!! I'll contact Sage again this afternoon to see if they've sent my bureau version yet.

I always have to sign for new software when I receive it from Sage, so if they're insisting you've had it ask for proof of delivery.

Is your quickbook multi company? I started off with single user Sage, and backing up and restoring all the time, but I was much happier when I moved over to multi company.

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

    Hi Sue

Yes my QB is multi company.

When I had Pro 2005 I had the single user and did the same - but when I upgraded I went for multi company, less hasstle.

With regards POD it has been asked for and guess what - Sage can't find one. Maybe it's because they haven't sent it

    Re:Sage Line 50 2007

I'll look into Quickbooks then when my Sage cover runs out, it sounds a lot cheaper. Plus it's good to be able to tell people you can use extra programs!

Surely it's up to Sage to prove they've sent it and if they can't prove it, there's the answer!!
