Horrors of Tax

HI all
I'm just getting into the horrors of tax and I wondered if anyone had like a self-assessment spreadsheet type thing for me to play around with.
One that copes with the financial planning aspect of mucking around with the bands in relation to non-savings, savings and dividends and their priorties would be excellent.
Thanks
Adrian

Re:Horrors of Tax
Hi Adrian
Why not download a demo version of PTP
then you can put in the various categories and hit the calculation button - all done for you!
If you want to actually buy the programme  it will only cost you £99 and you can use it for 25 s/a clients.

Re:Horrors of Tax
Hi Claudia,
Do you know if they provide the online reporting version to HMRC with this package?0 -
Re:Horrors of Tax
Yup - but (I think) you have to pay a bit extra for online filing - but it is brilliant, and also has all the safeguards in place to protect you as an agent, as HMRC are not seeing a client's signature!

I use PTP and think it is very good and excellent value to the small practitioner.
Don't even think about declining the online filing option!

Re:Horrors of Tax
Hi All,
I had a word with one of the sales guys at PTP and was told nothing was changing as Iris wanted to keep PTP separate from Iris as it targets a different market.
As I can be quite sceptical I don't know if this was a ploy to get me to part with my cash or what??

Re:Horrors of Tax
I spoke to them too and I was told the products and prices will be frozen for the next tax year.
He did say prices would definately increase for the year after that so I guess we will have to wait and see by how much..

Re:Horrors of Tax
Their end game (Iris') must be to integrate the two together, and they wont lower their prices to PTP level, so it will either be swallow Iris' prices or go elsewhere.....
Anyone got any ideas what else to look at?

Re:Horrors of Tax
Just setting up in business and interested in this topic so I downloaded the PTP demonstration software to have a look at the self assessment module - obviously it needs excel, would the student/teacher version do (my son is a full time student) or would I have to install the full business MS Office package. Could someone eg Dean or Claudia give me a demonstration scenario to have a go with the software - did the business tax with AAT but this is a bit of a leap. Email is rstoakley52@aol.com0 -
Re:Horrors of Tax
Have just spoken to PTP support and now have the answers I need - Claudia, do you recommend this software for on-line filing and payroll for sole traders, partnerships, limited companies. Any pitfalls to be wary of?0 -
Re:Horrors of Tax
I use PTP payroll and it is fine for most of my clients. It is not, however, as powerful as other solutions. The most notable shortfall for me is that it will not calculate student loan deductions for you. You have to do this manually and then enter the figure.
Also they do not produce stationery so if you wanted to use pre-printed payslips you will have to play around with the payslip format to make it fit your stationery.
99% of my payrolls are close company shareholder/directors so the above is not an issue. If I were operating a payroll bureau or running more payrolls for general employees then I would look elsewhere.0
