Software

I am always on the lookout for a good book-keeping package to recommend to clients - particularly the smaller ones with limited resources.

I have always provided book-keeping spreadsheet templates as oppose to recommending a particular software solution. I have yet to find an alternative that is both intuitive to non-accountants but still handles invoice accounting.

WinWeb looks like it could be a credible solution. I particularly like the way you can switch off any options you do not wish the client to be able to use and therefore tailor it to the level required for each client - if only you could do that with Sage!

Does anyone use WinWeb? Or know of any alternatives?

    Hi Dean

I've been using winweb this year. Online software has some clear advantages - accessibility, security of data etc. Winweb logs the user name next to each transaction posting which is really useful, especially when I am daling with clients who like to "dabble". As it's a developing product, the winweb team are open and accomodating to suggestions for improvement. I've found the online help very good, but it can be a laborious way to learn and there is no manual.
I haven't set up any new clients lately, but actually I think it is the business owner (not the accountant) who has control over access to different modules.
I am an exisiting Bronze Partner and as such I will have to start paying for the privelege from next August. As far as I know the service will continue to be free to business owners.
If you would like to know more about my experience of winweb, please feel free to give me a call.
I'm meeting the guy from Liberty Accounts (another online product) next week but I suspect it is more expensive.

    Re:Software

Could you post a link to that review?

Why I ask is that we have/use our own online accounting system.... i'm currently sorting out log in details for a few members on these forums. (See Claudia, I haven't forgotten :) )

That's quite interesting so thanks for that.

We use our own system that has not only been built by a programmer but he is also a chartered accountant. Then tried and tested by another chartered accountant. I can't praise it enough (but then I use it all the time) The system has now been doing for over 4 years and their are now lots of additional plug ins etc. tailored to an individual business.

Like i've siad i'm trying to sort out usernames and passwords for the example company. Shall I put your name down?

    Re:Software

I met with the Liberty Accounts guy today. I was impressed with the product and the range of setup options. Not really sure it fits the bill for what you are looking for,Dean S, ie
package to recommend to clients - particularly the smaller ones with limited resources.

The cost for one company is £20 per month. This allows for 5 users (these could be the bookkeeper and/or accountant as well as staff, and full payroll with online filing.

You can download a free trial at www.libertyaccounts.com. The website also has a link to a review on accountingweb.com.

A major consideration for me is to use software that will enable me provide the year end data to my client's accountant in a format he/she is comforatable with. Liberty accounts will produce a good range of printed reports but I would probably only choose to use this product if the accountant was prepared to register as a user and have access to the data.
