I have just boobed with an employees final pay and holiday entitlement. :(
Docked him 4 days pay instead of 1 as thought he had taken more hoiday than entitled to. I've done his P45 and sent our copy to HMR&C. How on earth do I get out of this one? Feeling really guilty. The boss won't be too bothered as he was on the point of sacking him, but I am!!

Maybe I should book myself on that Payroll course I 've been thinking about after all.

    Very unlikely, as with other stoppages he was left with very little left!

    Hiya,

    I was in a smiliar situation to this aqnd I had to employ the employee and pay him the outstanding holiday pay that he is owed and then reissue him another P45 and send this one to the trax office and to the employee and tell them both to ignore the previous P45 that was issued.

    You could process the under-payment and deduct tax at BR. Then the previous P45 would stand.

    Thanks Nic, I've come to that conclusion.
    Just know the boss won't want to pay him, but for my own piece of mind and to keep the boss on the right side of the law I think I'll do that.

    My daughter has been in the position of being underpaid so I know what it feels like :!:
