Anyone had a compliance visit from HMRC for PAYE & CIS lately?

I have one looming up on the horizon.

    Good luck! What system are you using? Does it have a data verification button? That's always a good place to start.

    Do the CIS guys all have good contracts in place to ensure that they are CIS and not employees?

    Have you been pro-active in what you are going to do come 5 April 2007?

    Can't think of anything else, but their main thing at the moment is trying to get people (particularly subbies) onto PAYE instead of CIS :evil:

    Could not agree more!

    Several of our contractor clients have had/are having compliance visits and the full focus is on subbies. One of the visits (emphasis on the plural) has been going on for almost 2 years :!:

    Pull off the list of how to decide whether you're self employed or not. We found we had to start charging for use of tools and hire of vans etc - we had our compliance visit 2 years ago and never heard anything since but we do have to keep up with contracts and proof of deductions etc.

    Also get them to "quote" for jobs - the quote for the next job can always be higher or lower if necessary :lol:

    This shows that the subbie is taking a financial risk in accepting the job.

    Already on top of CIS, so not too worried.

    Just haven't had a visit for a few years, so just wondered if they'd changed their approach.

    Officer sounded really friendly...but then so did I!
