Hi
Is anyone else waiting for their pocket notes from Kaplan? I've been waiting for mine for the last month.

I'm doing the AAT intermediate (NVQ) and i've got my work plan but it says that I need to hand a simulation in by a certain date and my skills test in on another date. I thought though that you did one or the other, not both! Can anyone shed any light on this?

    I would say what they are calling a simiulation is a mocke assessment?

    Probably best ask them this one.

    I am doing distance learning with Kaplan. The simulation they refer to is that "test" you should have received with your books and that is purely for you to see if you are able to complete, then you send that off and they will return it marked with the percentage they would mark it at. (Basically it is a guideline to see if you are ready for a skill test)

    The skill test is an additional test which is marked and counts towards your qualification. Some units only require a skill test but you are also required to do a skill test for units you will sit an exam for (I did not know that at first, they have not been very clear on that aspect). Anyway, the skill tests are done either at your work or at an AAC, you must arrange a date with the AAC or your employer and then contact Kaplan and they will send the paperwork to the AAC or the employer who will supervise you doing the test. So you do not get to see the test till the day you are taking it. Also you will have to answer some additional questions.

    Hope this helps, I found it very confusing when I started. The other thing which took me by surprise was that I sat the exam for the foundation level and did all my skill test to complete the level and only then I was told I had to do an additional IT test because I decided to do skill tests for all the units instead of submitting work evidence and there is very little IT assesment in the skill tests... :roll:

    What pocket notes are you missing? They sent a letter saying they were waiting for delivery. I have got all of the pocket notes for unit 5,6 and 7 but I ordered my books in june.What exams are you sitting?

    Thanks for that. I'm glad some people know what they're doing. I haven't received any of my pocket notes for any of the units. They keep saying they'll be out by the end of the week but don't come, 3 times they've done that now.

    I'm doing my exams in June. I only got my books about 5 weeks ago. I thought because i'd worked in accounts for the last 4 years it'd be quite easy but I was so wrong. Its the definitions for everything thats the worst. At work I do most of the things in unit 5 but it seems alot more difficult actually writing it down and explaining it. How are you finding it? :)

    Yes I know the feeling, it is so much easier just to do it than explaining it in words. I hate writing reports and commentary while I love the figure work.

    I am finding it ok, it is all new to me, because unfortunately I only deal with invoicing. I am dying to get a job where I can practice the skills I am learning, it is just so difficult to find someone to give you a chance because I lack experience and it becomes a circle, I can't get experience because I am not experienced enough and I am stuck in my current job!!! help! :cry:

    From now till june you will be ok especially if you do most of it for work, as I said it is all new to me and I only started studying Unit 7 in August, now I am on Unit 5 and then will start Unit 6 in 2 weeks time... I know, I know I am cutting it fine but I will be ok and so will you! :)

    I received my pocket notes today, so hopefully yours are on there way. I'm finding unit 31 a bit hard going at the moment, all those ratios are confusing me!! Good luck with your studies!! :lol:

    Are you doing the diploma? The intermediate units for the NVQ are 5, 6 and 7.

    I take you are talking about the ROE, ROCE and Asset Turnover and so on... That's in unit 7 for the NVQ.

    There is a lot to remember, I am doing my skill test on unit7 on Thursday! I must get back to revise!
