I have had my books come through today and have got through 1 chapter in Business tax. I would like to sit the Personal & business tax exam in December, but not sure if this would be realisic for me considering its round the corner. I would be willing to work really hard to get through the books and past exam questions, but as much as I want to do it I would like to sit Personal & Business Tax exams in December but I am not sure if it would be realisic for me considering:
We have 3 children under 12
I work 25 hours a week
and I have got MS

thats the strangest post ive ever read, the final line topped it off.

It depends how hard your willing to work. I attempted both taxes, DFS and PEV (whole syllabus bar one exam!) and passed them all, whilst working a 45 hour week and having family commitments at the weekend. It's about time management. Realistically, you will need to read the books by the end of this month in order to go through questions and revision in November.

If all your kids are at school, the MS is OK at the mo, you have loads of determination and a real, real desire to do it, then it is possible BUT is it worth it? Would you be better off doing one in December and the other in June.

Only you can answer this but good luck with whatever you decide.

Do you have prior experience of taxation? Do you work in tax?

If so, then maybe you will be able to get through the syllabus quite quickly.

If it's all new to you then it will be tough.

If you are happy to resit if you fail, and can afford to pay a resit fee, then go for it!

    Good luck!

I haven’t had any experience in tax previously, the decision has however been taken out of my hands, as my tutor has informed me that I have got the wrong books if I wanted to sit the December exam. I will instead be attempting Managing Performance & Resources, I am very determined and will have to be very strict and disciplined with my studying in order to pass this exam. If it however proves to be too much stress wise, then I will have to lighten up abit and this time acknowledge any likely MS symptoms instead of just ignoring them. Here goes..

    Hello camille,

Good Luck with your December exams!
I will be resitting the two Management accounts ones in December - I found the PEV one very complicated in June - A lot to remember!
I have recently undergone tests for MS and will be having my results in the next 3 weeks! After the June exams this year I had a numbness/ pins & needles/ spasms down my left hand side awfully tired and was barely able to work for approx 4 weeks!
How do you manage to cope with work, a family and the AAT!

    Good Luck
