Ok im 24 with 3 children , 2 of whom are at school.
I was interested in the AAT foundation course and had to attend a meeting with a tutor. (my sister is also a full time mum) and she had a meeting at the same time too.
When we said that we didnt work and that we had dependant children and that wed best do the diploma course , she said that it didnt matter and enrolled us onto the NVQ instead.
So now 4/5 weeks in we have heard that you are supposed to have completed a years full time work in accounts before you can actully "PASS" the technician stage
can someone tell me if this is true and wether wed be able to just swap over to the diploma route (is the work still the same?)
thanks in advance i know i tend to go on and on lol

Re:NVQ or DIPLOMA ??? Im lost
Hi
I have replied to your other thread regarding the work experience, but yes you do need to complete 1 years work exp. to become a full memeber - however, you will still be AAT Qualified.
I am suprised the tutor still put you on NVQ as the diploma came about especially for people who do not work in accounts - those people on the NVQ were struggling to complete the postfolio evidence and the diploma does not have a portfolio, but more skills test instead.
The subjects will still be the same - the only difference is the way they are assessed. The end qualification is the same.
You should still be able to complete AAT via the NVQ route though - being at college will help you as the tutor can set you tests and questions to cover the portfolio criteria. I think it was more home study students in non-accounting jobs who really struggled.
All the best with your course!0 -

Hi!
I think the idea of the diploma was to help people in non-accounts jobs by eliminating the portfolio - I'm on NVQ route so I am not 100% sure about the diploma, but I think you need the work experience whichever route you take. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!
Yes you will definitely have the qualification, work experience or not.
As far as I am aware, it is 1 years full time work (35hrs p.w. +) or 2 yrs part time work.
I believe it can be done after you complete the qualification, but I think you'd have to do it quite soon after - check with student services to be sure.

Hi
You need the work experience for membership for both the NVQ and Diploma route. You can (I belive) apply for membership up to six years after completion of technciam, though depending on how soon you apply you may need to show eveidence of CPD since completion of technician stage - check these details with student services, the details may be on the relevant section of the website.

Re:NVQ or DIPLOMA ??? Im lost
I have just finished all of the assessment tasks, simulations etc for the NVQ foundation. All I need to do now is get the portfolio finished, which is SOOOOOOOOOO difficult as I don't work in accounts and I have no work based evidence. I will be signing up for the Advanced Certificate instead of the NVQ Intermediate. It is just too hard to get the portfolio together!!0
