Has anyone else attended these celebrations? I was at the event in York last Friday 3rd and it was a fantastic night. Great to see the delight on peoples faces when they went up to receive their awards.

Well worthing going to one of these ceremonies if you receive an invite. Good chance to network with other members as well.

I was at the York ceremony too!! I was the one that won the bottle of champagne!! It's not been cracked open yet but it will be soon.

Yes I had a very good night, but found the MP a little boring if I'm being honest - however I suppose that is their job :P

Will you be going on to further studies??

Congratulations on winning the champers! I was jealous of you at the time!! By the way, I was one of the two new FMAATs there on the night. I also found the MP extremely boring - I thought his speech was somehow going to come around to the fact that the AAT has lots of members in African countries, but no he actually had no point at all!

I don't think I will go on to further studies as I have a good position as a manager within a top-30 firm and also a small portfolio of personal clients. I am not sure how an additional qualification could further my career. I also have two young children, so studying at home would prove difficult at this stage. I would never say never however and may be tempted in a few years. How about you?

Yes, I think I like putting myself through the misery of exams!! I've just started studying for the ACA qualification. I also have two small children at home (age 6 and 3) so it's going to be tough, and have only just gone back to full time working. I was working part time for a small company doing all their books etc, but knew if I wanted to carry on and qualify as a full blown accountant I was going to have to join the rat race so got myself a job within a small private practice in Hessle. I'm really enjoying it and learning loads, but missing the kids terribly. It's a shame there isn't much part time work about for trainees!!

Congratulations on becoming an FMAAT. How long do I have to be an MAAT before I can apply for FMAAT?

You have to have been a MAAT for five year before you can apply to become a FMAAT. However you will also need at least three years of management experience within those five years to be eligible. I think this is the problem area for MAATs wanting to become FMAATs in that they are not always able to get the management experience.

I was there to - same thaughts about the MP though speech a little bit long when you have a time deadline (train to catch which ended up being 25mins late anyway) Got my certificate for passing Tech Level exams and waiting for me when I got home was a letter and another certificate granting my full membership - pity it hadnt arrived sooner and I could have killed two birds with one stone so to speak and saved the AAT money. All in all was a good evening.

Congratulations on your membership. At least this way you will get an invite to another Award Ceremony - I will have to wait twenty years until my 25-years service award!!

Think I will give the 25 year one a miss unless they present them in the afterlife (will be 71 then and may not even be able to say certificate let alone accept it) - does anyone know when the photos will be available to view online at wwww.successphotography.com have sent them an email but have had not reply - just keep having a peek but they are not there yet.
