Hi people,
Is anyone else feeling the way I do? I've had problems at home which has made me fall behind with work and I've got four exams coming up. Help!!! I've resigned to the fact that I'll have to try and aim to pass two of the exams instead of all five.
I just want to see if there are anyone else in same boat.
Sonia

Re:Feeling fed up (Me 2)
Hi Sonia,
I'm not exactly in the same boat as you, but I'm kinda rowing behind !
I feel like at the moment the PEV and PCR exams are taking over my life.
As soon as I finish work, I have to find time to study, god knows what a weekend is anymore!
(They just come and go).
Our tutor has been on our backs, to get on with the project as well. I've started it, but I've been on maternity leave for a year, my job was out sourced to India, so I've just got to "remember" stuff from like 15 months ago. The job I'm doing now, makes me feel like a robot. (Input crap).
I'm sooooooooooooo p e v 'd off !! ! !
It feels like there is so much stuff to learn, in so little time. I'm really getting stressed out, because everything I'm doing at the moment revolves round the AAT exams.
I've got 2 little boys to take care of, and it just feels like I'm putting all this AAT stuff b4 them. (I just hope its worth it)

Re:Feeling fed up
Hi,
I'm so glad someone is feeling the same as me. It feels like there's no life when studying for AAT. It makes me wonder are there good jobs out there after all this?

Re:Feeling fed up
Hi Sonia - don't give up now! you are nearly there... just keep thinking a few more weeks or so and you will have a breather. i went through exactly the same last year - working full time, looking after 2 kids and nursing my partner who had an uncuriable brain injury. I felt I was drowning with balancing home, work, hospital and study - but i kept positive and knew that the results would be worthwhile. put the project on hold and concentrate on exams - go back to project over the quiet christmas period and honestly you will be able to concentrate more. GOOD LUCK !!0 -
Re:Feeling fed up
dont give up you two!!
I am proud to say i have completed my AAT and am now onto CIMA. for my sins.
Looking back, AAT was actually enjoyable and i know you dont believe me but if you continue your studies you will both say the same. HONEST!!
AAT look for competency. CIMA look for marks.
If you kinda grasp what you are learning, then under exam pressure you will remember. You are isolated in your own little world and trust me it does come back to you, even if you dont think it is sinking in!!
Dont give up. You would be a fool to throw in the towel even before you have sat the exam!0 -
Re:Feeling fed up
Michelle's advice is 100% spot on and she also speaks from experience. Her words merely go to echo what my advice would be.
Exam time is always a fraught time in anyone's life - whether you've put in five months of study or five days of study. The unpredictability of exams also doesn't help nor does the fact that exams at all levels (AAT is no exception) contain syllabus' that seem to increase more and more as each sitting goes by. When I was a student it seemed like life's impossibility to qualify as MAAT let alone qualify in any of the Chartered qualifications.
Conversely, however, accountancy is an extremely demanding profession and the exams merely go to equip you with the skills required to deal with the profession on a day to day basis. When you pass the exams and qualify as MAAT all the hard work, stress, tears, pen-throwing, loss of tempers, arguments with partners, threatening to give up and (hopefully hypothetically speaking) blood will be worth it.
Stick at it, you're not on your own and the rewards are there to be reaped, though the price has to be paid, but when it's paid you've made a future for yourself - and a promising one it will be.
Kind regards.0 -
Re:Feeling fed up
I have a young son and I find it difficult as well. I have found that the easiest way to cope is to wait till he is in bed and then work continuously for 3 or 4 hours of an evening. At the end of the day you can work really hard for a few weeks now and aim to pass, or end up in the exact same situation in June if you have to retake.
I don't know where you live but near me we have a place called Fun Junction which is like a big soft play area where the parents all sit outside and the kids play with each other and they're safe and have fun and can't escape. This has been a godsend for me at the weekends as it means I can sit and have a coffee and do a bit of work and the kids dont mind that your busy cos they get to have fun.
Bribery I know, but worth it in my opinion.
Apparently they also have similar areas in many leisure centres around the country?
Dunno if any of this is any good for you, just thought i'd let you know you arent the only one.

Re:Feeling fed up
Hi
All very sound advice, I'm very fed up too never been so tired in my life (and yes have cried, thrown and taken it out on loved ones) but I am trying to keep my chin up just a bit longer. Its only a small proportion of our life training for AAT and the pain of exams will soon be forgotten but the qualification will always be there and I am sure it will help with you and your families future. It is cold, dark nights, tiring time of year but were so close and were all here for support.

Re:Feeling fed up
I know just how you feel, my house is like a Child Minders crossed with a Zoo, what with having 4 Children, 3 Dogs, 1 Rabbit, 2 Budgies, 1 Hampster and 3 Goldfish. I know that my wife does help with most of it but finding peace and quiet to study is as rare as rocking horse do do!
All I can say is no, your not the only one and that I send you my support by saying keep your chin up and remember, once you've done it and passed they can't take it away from you!
Good Luck and All the best
Ian

Re:Feeling fed up
Glad to be of service.
Date: 17/11/06
Invoice 01
Consutancy Fee £50.00
Payable Immediately
Only joking, that's true there are quite a few other students feeling overwhelmed, but the AAT website gives great advice on how to cope and this forum is good as well.

Re:Feeling fed up
Well put it this way, I went to my class last night and we were given the June 2006 paper to try in the lesson, and I completely messed it up in parts, but I know now where I am going wrong and I feel much more confident now.
i was getting stuck with working out the tax payable and allocation of shares.0 -
