Accounting Software

I have just purchased Sage Instant with an Elearning CD to refresh my computerised accounts knowledge. I know of members who are backing up separately for 3/4 clients as a low cost initial start up option although great care is needed as it is too easy to overwrite.

Can I ask - do other members run accounts software for clients entirely themselves working from home or are you providing the software accountant link and transferring some data inputted by the client and working on the more complicated reports and month end/year end procedures.

I use the Sage Client manager, which is basically a multi company version of Sage. It includes the accountants link facility although I have yet to meet a client who is a suitable candidate for using it.
It all depends on individual clients, what they want you to do, and what their existing setup is like.
I found the backup / restore method scary so I decided to spend thbe extra money on the client manager. Sage do offer ten month terms, which makes it easier on the pocket.

Is that the 25 company version (client manager 2007)?

I have a 2 user licence on the 25 company version which actually gives 50 companies - far more than I need but it means two people can work on the same company at one time.
Sage are offering a 5 company version with their new Bookkeepers club but the club membership costs £350 plus VAT. I just tried to look at the Sage website to get you a price for the 25 compnay version, but I can't find it. I am starting to believe all this is open to negotiation so I would suggest you have a word with the Sage sales team when the time is right for you.

    Good luck

I've got the Same Bureau version as Sheelagh and I've been told by Sage that the price is £495 plus Carriage and Vat, but like Sheelagh has said the Customer Service Staff at Sage seem to make the prices up as they go along and there seems to be no set rules, so if you catch them on a good day you might get a better price!
