How are you getting on with tax returns?

I obviously am trying to avoid any real work today as I have just spent the last 1/2 hour working out the following
Tax returns completed, done and dusted 63%
Tax returns waiting for signing 9%
Tax returns not yet started 28%
Now I have just got to decide what exactly this means in the remaining 68 days that we have left - apart from 1% per day

How is everyone else getting on?

Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
I went to a very good demonstration of Iris that showed how the annual production software links information straight through to the tax returns - so I intend to invest in the lite option at £50 a month. I will let you know in Jan 2008 how this works out with a number of tax returns to do!! that is if they don't change the deadline date to earlier.0 -
Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
My figures are similar:
68% done and dusted
25% pending information and/or signing
7% not yet started (dispute reminders)
The pending ones should all be done and dusted before Christmas. As the for the final 7% who knows?0 -
Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
Sorry spelling mistake there: should read dispite reminders, not dispute reminder!!!!0 -
Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
I only have a handful not yet started. About 75% are done and the rest I am waiting for information on to complete.
What concerns me with one is IR have lost an online return from 2005 which my client submitted herself(only taken client on in August)and has the confirmation. They notified the client on Tuesday and are now trying to impose a fine

So far so good!
Although the subcontract side of things is another story!

Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
We printed the list off on Friday in our firm.
All I will say is that I will be hitting the bottle in January and anybody that wants to is welcome to join me! :roll:0 -
Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
Hi Michelle
I would write a polite letter to HMRC stating that the return was file online on x date at y time, enclosing a copy (not the original) of the confirmation. Ask them equally politely to rescind all proposed fines.
I used to have this every March in the old days of posting them - often a handful would go "missing", and I would have to write in enclosing a copy of the recorderd delivery slip and a copy of the signature that you get off the royal mail website - and all this achieved was client giving me aggro, cos they thought I hadnt submitted their returns on time
This is however my first year of doing them on line, and the ones that I have a 64-8 for, I have checked their record and all OK so far.....

Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
Thanks for that Claudia.
I have sent them a copy of the return along with proof that it was sent orginally, now a case of watch this space!!
I really don't know how they could lose a return filed online - it doesn't give me confidence in the system

Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
I thought I would check how I was getting on with my returns. Out of 30 clients on SA I have completed 26 and am still waiting for information from the last 4. Whether there will be a rush in January I don't know.

Re:How are you getting on with tax returns?
I thought my figures would be really bad compared to yours but they're not too bad...
59% done & dusted
25% can (in theory!) be completed
16% waiting for info (but i'm not organised enough to have sent reminders yet)
Just keeping my fingers crossed that someone's coming to help me out over xmas!
