For the Business Law
'Bargain'/ 'Consideration'

Two reasons for cash
1. Cash would be instant payment - no waiting for clearance, etc.
2. Might not like banks, etc. (money laundering...?)
[edit - 3. Undischarged Bankrupts are Allowed to set up in business again, but must remain reporting to the Official Receiver. They will have limited access to cheques, credit cards, and debit cards. So, payment may simply be innocent circumstances...]
Not sure the relevance of 'odd'...?
Hope that helps.
