PEV Section 1 Service Industry

After looking at all the past papers under the current standards it appears that only section one of December 2003 was based on a service industry, do you think this implies that this type of task is well over due or that it is no longer examined?

    It is very much examinable.

    Dec 05 was a newspaper with income from advertising

    Sec 2 of Dec 03 had a residential school

    June 02 was a call centre

    Dec 01 sec 2 was an hotel

    Dec 00 was a travel firm (ferries and buses)

    Dec 99 was another hotel

    I think a lot of us struggle with service industries as opposed to manufacturing. However, in the relevant past papers I've tackled, you are nudged in the right direction.

    I sometimes found it difficult in extracting the right criteria from the text book questions, but in the exams there are clear indicators - if you read the data carefully.

    As ever, we are demonstrating compentence in applying these skills to actual working envirnoments. Examiners know that in the real world there would be evidence to help you.

    What's the problem with it being a service? You just apply the same formulas don't you?

    It can get confusing between passengers/numbers of flights.
