Hi

At college yesterday we were told there is an article is the November AAT magazine on linear regression - apparently this is hint that it will be in the exam.

It's not 100% definate it will be there but I'm glad I was told as it's an area I hadn't really looked at.

Back in June we were told normal losses/gains may be in the ECR exam as this appeared in the magazine and it was.

Just thought I'd let everyone know!!!

So it won't come up in the normal PEV, for technicians?

In the magazine it said this topic is covered in technician level (whereas mine is referred to as diploma level) so its a possibility

The example isn't difficult it gives a y = mx + c equation and asks you to forecast sales using this equation (must quicker than having to work out the trend yourself). It then asked you to either add or subtract seasonal variation from the answer.

Also added if it does appear this is all it will be so fingers crossed should be ok

Do you know which area, if any, cover this in the Osborne book?

    Re:POSSIBLE MAC, PEV/PCR EXAM HINT

look at chapter one there's a page there

doesn't really go into much detail but there is a bit about equation ' y = mx + c'

from what i gathered in the article if it appears we will be told the values of m and c - x may be year, quarter or period number - and we have to calculate y to find the forecast value

would you like me to send you the question later?? haven't got a scanner so i'd have to type it but shouldn't take too long

    Hi everyone,
Just to let you know, on that note there is linear regression in the past paper of PCR Dec 03, section 2, also deals with seasonlly adjusted figures. So I thought this was a good question for practice. Thanks for the heads up I must of missed that when I looked through the magazine.
