Sage and the building trade

I have a new client who runs a small building company. He would like me to report profit on individual jobs. He only does about 5 jobs a year.
I want to use Sage for this client's bookkeeping.
I was thinking of using department codes and transactional P&L reports for reporting on indivudual jobs.
Has anyone got any experience of this, or any better ideas.
Thank you
Sheelagh

Re:Sage and the building trade
The new and improved (ha ha) Sage 2007 has a costing and profit feature built in - not applicable to any of my clients so I haven't had a look at it.

Re:Sage and the building trade
Im afraid to install my 2007! I'll try to find some courage if it's going to help, but I'm quite happy to leave it sitting on my desk at the moment.
This client isn't going to buy his own software, so I'll be using my Client manager.
I'm not sure if the Client Manager is based on Line 50 Accountant, or Accountant Plus. On the website it looks as if you only get project costing with the Plus version. Do you know?
Thank you

Hi Sheelagh
I have just got Line 50 and there is a costing thing on it - I have been using mine for about a month or so, and am slowly getting used to it - still freezes sometimes when generating reports, but by and large works OK if somewhat slow.

Hi Sheelagh
I use departmental codes and transactional reports for a client who runs 3 shops and likes reports on them individually. I have found this to be the easiest way to produce the reports and doesn't freeze.
I tried the costing thingy and didn't like it as I found it too slow and also had problems generating the reports.
