    Depends how long they rent for. If they rent for the life of the asset they end up paying almost double what they could have bought it for.

    I know it costs them more in the long run but it said in the question they decide on ROCE and they want this to improve. If it was on Operating profit it'd be the purch.

    Depends how long they rent for. If they rent for the life of the asset they end up paying almost double what they could have bought it for.

    I said buy aswell because it was cheaper overall. also recommended a full capital appraisial and if NPV 0 or above then buy machine

    I'm going to go pull my finger out and study DFS now. I'm sure I'll be on here possibly crying my eyes out after that exam. Hehe. Good luck to everyone for the other exams!!! :D

    I got 210a & and 4410f, but they didn't reconcile with my voume variance - god knows what I did there!

    Section two was a nightmare, the only thing I was confident about was explaining what lifecycle costing actually was - when it came to calculating it, I completely bombed!

    I was fine with Section one with the exception my volume variance which appears to be incorrect, although I really couldn't see where I had gone wrong. I showed my workings, so maybe I picked up a wrong number.

    I'm so gutted!

    Has anyone else submitted a complaint to the AAT about the errors on the exam paper? I have phoned up student services who said that it can only be done via a written complaint!!

    Hi,

    I have just phoned student services to try and complain but didn't get very far. You can email them complaints or wait for the survey to come out shortly which is done online. The exam paper will be on the internet from next tuesday or wednesday.

    It's disgusting that they can give a paper that was that ambiguous. Mind you they aren't bothered if we fail because it's more money for them!!

    I'm confident I passed section one but section 2 could go either way.

    i had problems on that last part on which to add the 1 million to etc it wasnt very clear.

    from what i can gather though its how to you interpret the figures although the calculation is important.

    the question wasnt very well worded and i had the same problem on page 6 aswell !!

    but i think if you have a figure wether right or wrong and are able to interpret it with respect to the question then you will just lose out on accuracy marks.

    other than that it went ok for me and the y = a+xb was a nice touch too

    Ratios and variances no real problems, Hopefully worded the reports okay.

    Life cycle costing is in BPP text and so I knew about it but found it harder to relate to that particular circumstance. The error re page 6 was a real pain. I spent a good few minutes wondering what I was missing and thinking I'd lost the plot, as it appears others were. Not impressed with that at all, deciding what asset amount to use for the costs made me wonder. Picked Nov in the end and just hoped.

    More annoyed that the time I wasted thinking about the page number was time where I could have been improving answers to earlier questions or checking again.

    Thought I was going to be the only one!! I recommemded buying based on the higher profit margin!

    Thought this paper was awful - other than the basic calculations!

    Were we the only ones that hadn't been taught anything but the calculations of variances and performance indicators?

    I'm not happy with the way we've been taught and I know quite a few in my class feel the same way! especially as some of us didn't get our books until a couple of weeks ago!

    Did anyone add long term libality (net asset + long term laibility) to calculate ROCE in section 2.1?

    I didn't because it stated in the data that it was only being rented as opposed to leased, so just included it as a revenue cost.

    Hi all!

    I ran out of time in the end, not that it made much dfference as i had never come across Life Cycle Costing anyway. After the exam my FTC tutor enlightened me by saying that it wasnt in the FTC text books! :shock: I got the same profit for rental and purchase as has already been posted on section 2 (P&L accounts) but i calculated the higher ROCE for purchase, so i recommended that, i suspect i fell at the final fence here! I found this a tough exam and i also thought it was time pressured

    I was delayed by traffic (with a couple of others, apparently), so wasn't as calm and collected as I would have liked. It took me an extra 75 minutes, which was the time I was hoping to spend just chilling!

    It was still officially 'reading time' when I arrived, so not too bad.

    Managed to get it all done but can't say more than that.

    Their choice of wording i.e. rental rather than leasing indicated that it would only be a revenue cost, rather than a long-term liability.

    Although we were advised how long it might be rented for, it wasn't subject to a leasing agreement.

    That's how I interepreted it. Help!

    Well I just thought the exam was overall scary, lol.

    Nightmare for me from the word go and now my paper looks like a child has done it, I am sure whoever marks it will be very impressed (not).

    Glad that other people are in the same boat as me (thought my brain had dissapeared to be honest)

    It was the first couple of questions that got me. All though I know I used the right equations, I put completely the wrong figures in. I used budget - actual instead of standard - actual. Did anybody else make this stupid error?

    Hi pele,

    I think I made a few silly errors, to be honest, I went back and changed my first section and think that I may have cracked it the first time, ooppsss.

    Nothing we can do now though is there, the exam is done, all we can do is wait hope and pray, lol.
