DFS!!! Please help!!!

Hey ppl, today I have gone through all the DFS past papers but just can't understand the question in June 2005 on the associated company (task 1.4a) does it work exactly the same as working out your goodwill for your groups? Please help. I can't believe theres just over twelve hours to go, I feel sick!!! ARGH!!! :(

    did you mean task 1.4 or task 1.5a.

    task 1.4 doesnt have an a) question.

    hmmm it says 1.4 a in June 2005 'Calculate the amount of the investment in the associate, Grant Ltd, that will appear in the consolidated balance sheet of Bell PLC as at 31 March 2005'

    how strange..mine says its 1.5a)...oh well...

    ok let me try to explain...

    1st of all you need to do work out the 25% of goodwill, once you have done that you need to take 25% of the net assets that Grant Ltd has, add on the goodwill and that is the amount of investment in the assocaite.

    if you want me to type out the answer i dont mind

    Hey thanks for replying, I understand the 25% of the 18000000 and understand the consideration is 5,000,000 etc, but surely this comes to exactly the same answer as if you did the full workings using the share capital and share premium etc?

    hmm i'm not sure then. on the balance sheets for the two companies there is no shared premuim for grant ltd.

    i did speak to my tutor about this early as i thought the same as you. now i cannot remember what he said. i might see if i can have another a look at it now

    Don't worry about it. I'm going to chill out now, think I need a long hot bath, I'm not looking at anything else till tomorrow when I open the paper. Hehe. Theres always June. I didn't open a book or anything till start of November so if I pass these exams with only 5 weeks work I will be mega impressed, hehe.

    Trust me nothing can prepare me for tomorrow, hehe. I don't know any of the IASs. And if the person who wrote the exam was the same person that wrote PEV I stand no chance.

    I haven't smoked since new years eve but I think I'll be stopping at a garage on the way there tomorrow, if the fags don't destress me at least its been so long I'll have nicoteen rush and wont care whats on the paper. Lol

    I lost the plot this morning!!! lol. Had a headache all day long and just know I am not going to get a wink of sleep tonight. I don't know why I'm so nervous. I'm only young, I've got plenty of years to pass!
