Good Morning.
I am looking for advice please, or as anyone had the same problems.
I am 40 and I am a full AAT member, I am also on my last 3 core papers of ACCA.
I have been for the last year or so been trying to get another job but have had little success, I have some interviews where I have applied directly but with Recruitment agencies, I go along for an interview with them they promise they will get something for me and then nothing happens.
On one occasion I applied for a position which was posted on the internet that morning, I was advised that it was closed.
I am a good accountant present myself well and consider my to be a high calibre candidate. What really annoys me is that I have had to recruit a Assistant Accountant and some of the rubbish that agencies sent me was beyound belief.
I can't help feeling that agencies only want to know you if you are twenty something and that they discriminate.
Anyone else at my age have problems with this, or is it just me?

Re:Employment
Hi
Dont get me started on agencies!!!!
However, they are somewhat of a necesary evil. I would sugest leaving the ones which have been no help and registering with some others.
I wouldnt have though your age would have been too much of an issue at 40, however, have you tried leaving your DOB of of your CV and seen what happens?

Re:Employment
Its not your age- I'm afraid its difficult for everyone. I have frequently found myself being rejected for jobs because I am "overqualified": read "too old". Which at 23 and AAT Technician level, sounds like a joke but isn't.

Re:Employment
The problem is that employers have a perception of what or who they are looking for. If you aren't an exact match, you're out of the game before it starts.
It's all about timing.
