Reclaim of VAT from Bad Debts

My client has sold his business and therefore de-registered his VAT. However, he still has a few invoices that were never paid. He paid the VAT on them. Can he reclaim this VAT even though he is no longer registered? (Hope that makes sense)

    Yes!

    Using form VAT427 (the same one as for claiming post-deregistration input VAT)
