Has anyone studied the AAT DPMS modules? I would appreciate some general information about how it works
- what do the study packs contain
- do you get study support from AAT or do you have to arrange other sources of support
- have you used this route to gain the relevant NVQ
- how have you arranged for assessment of outcomes.
Any info or comments would be appreciated. I can't find much information about the scheme on this website.
Thank you
Sheelagh

Re:Developing Professional Management Skills
Hi Sheelagh,
I am enrolled on the DPMS scheme but due to time constraints haven't got very far with it.
I can tell you that the study packs are designed to be followed in your own time and unfortunately AAT don't provide study support so you have to arrange your own. But the introductory module does help you work through who could provide this support to you.
The study packs contain blocks of information followed by simple exercises followed by more information etc. The modules regularly prompt you to review your progress etc.
Even though I haven't worked through lots of modules I have found them easy to follow and have learnt a lot about my learning styles, preferred learning outcomes etc.
I hope that this helps but if you want to ask further questions then just let me know and I will do my best to assist.

Re:Developing Professional Management Skills
Hi Lee
Thank you for your response. I have now ordered my first unit so it will be interesting to see what it contains. I found the introduction manual useful to identify my learning styles nad skills gaps, but I think I probably could have done that without paying £30 for it! If I have to continue to seek out learning materials from elsewhere I doubt I will continue with other units.
I'll let you all know what I think when it arrives.
Regards

Re:Developing Professional Management Skills
I must admit I had never heard of the DPMS scheme until I read this thread.
All the units seem like valuable information but £390 for an entire set - I can't see the justification.
The units read like the contents page of a good management book with a chapter on each area.
I would be interested to know which units you ordered and what you receive in terms of material. If they were tailored to the accountancy practice then I would consider paying that kind of money. However, as they are designed for AATs of all backgrounds, I suspect they are very general with slight bias towards working within larger organisations.
Lee, you mention study support? Are these units examinable then? They just seem like self-help guides to me.0
