Anybody else quite like live music?

I used to hate it, but have gotten into it over the last few years. I didn't go to my first concert until I was 23!

Who have you been to see?

So far I've been to see Kylie, Take That x 2, The Zutons and Scissor Sisters.

In 2007, I'm off to see The Killers, Girls Aloud (don't ask!) and Scissor Sisters again - also might be going to Reading Festival.

Bit of a mix I know! There are loads of other bands/artists I'd love to see but would cost a lot of money!!

I'm so excited about seeing The Killers - less than 6 weeks to go!

    He he! :-)

The tickets went pretty quick when we booked them - they might add more dates though so you might be in with a chance! We're going to the 02 in London in July.

We were really lucky when we saw them in Wembley in Nov - we arrived 30mins before doors opened and still got to front! Only 1 person inbetween us and the rail! Got some ace photos. They were fantastic though and Jake Shears really can sing that high!

Lily Allen was supporting and she was great!

Which reminds me I've also seen Lily Allen, Melody Club (Kylie's support) and Beverley Knight and Sugababes twice.

I've also seen PJ & Duncan (Ant & Dec), 911, Peter Andre, Kavangah, Michelle Gayle, Ultimate Kaos - all at U18 nightclub when I was about 14! Ha ha! :-) Also saw Madison Avenue and Black Legend in a night club I worked in whilst at college!

That must be a (April Fools) joke. Can someone please explain Bob Dylan to me because I just don't get him.

I don't mean I don't like him - there's lots of groups that I don't like. It's just I really do not understand what all the fuss is about.

Signing off now - before Paul starts on me...

Exactly - very impressive, but I still don't see why.

It can't all be for nostalgic reasons - for the sixties.

I must confess to driving people mad by singing the opening words to a song about some bloke with a tamborine - subliminal obviously!

Have you listened to much of his material? Some of its very political, very funny, and some are just classics. I appreciate it for the guitar as well, being a guitarist myself.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

I've heard his music, but never really listened.

Once a lyric hooks you, it's easy for the rest to follow. I will try and listen!

    Re:Live music

Some I've seen, though many years ago!

Metallica x 3 (one with the original bass player now deceased!); Slayer x 2; Anthrax; Celtic Frost; Testament; Whitesnake; ZZ Top; Bon Jovi x 3; Hawkwind; Ozzy; MSG; Saxon; Motorhead x 5 (!!!); too many to remember really!

Saw many many 80's original thrash and speed metal groups! Kreator, Onslaught, Agent Steel, Nuclear Assault etc. Paul might know some of these, though you were probably too young at the time mate!

But have also been to see Phantom and My Fair Lady though when they were in the West End. I'm not a complete oaf you know!

    Haven't seen Sir Cliff however...

    Re:Live music

Cliff Burton. He died in September '86 in a coach crash. The driver fell asleep at the wheel or something, the bus tipped over, Cliff, who was sleeping went out the window then got crushed when the coach rolled on him. Something pretty much like that. I can think of better ways to go though it probably happened so fast he never knew what literally hit him.

When I saw Metallica in '85 at Donnington, the bass was so loud the ground was shaking just like a fricking earthquake. One of my most vivid memories of my younger metal days!

    Oh dear!

The ratios you mentioned last night, was that to do with DFS or something else.

    I'm panicking.

That was for use in assessing a customer's potential creditworthiness (for CMCC) - but I believe they do crop up again in DFS.

Just keeping on topic... there's a list of gigs I've been to over on my last.fm journals page

I was there with you Robert, and went the next year too!

Who have I seen, Iron Maiden (3 times), Helloween, Anthrax, Metallica, Def Leppard (twice), Bon Jovi, Erasure, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions (first concert), Monsters of Rock (twice) and last year Robbie Williams.

I'm sure there are more but the old brain just isnt' working anymore!

    Re:Live music

Blimey, who would have guessed that myself and Annette were a couple of 'old' headbangers?! I saw Iron Maiden too - back in Nottingham, May 1983 - which is before some of the people on here were even born. How old do I feel? And although I never got to see them, Black Sabbath have just been voted the greatest metal band of all time - I have to agree with that!

    http://www.mtv.com/bands/m/metal/greatest_metal_bands/071406/

I try to get my kids to listen to my old thrash but sadly, they're not having any of it! They don't mind a bit of more contemporary Rammstein and Slipknot however - well, apart from my little girl that is who hates it all and laughs/cringes at my air guitaring!

    The mob rules...

Thrash metal is not music. No metal is music.
