Could anyone offer any advice on which college is best for distance learning? I need to retake DFS as i failed my exam and dont think i fully understood the content. I have done a bit of research and see that BPP and FTC Kaplan do this unit for £120. They seem much of a muchness but is one better than the other?

Thanks for that. However when you look at premier Trainings website it does'nt look like they do individual units just Foundation, Intermediate and Technician. If anyone knows different please let me know?

Knowing Premier, I expect if you emailed or phoned they'd 'make you an offer'!

They're quite flexible and might be able to do something.

I did my technician level with FTC under distance learning and found the text books easier to follow - I passed all four technician exams (DFS, PTC, PEV & PCR) first time, so must have understood the syllabus!!

I did my distance learning with bpp. I passed all exams first time and they send you a really good revision pack six weeks before your exam. I passed DFS exam because of how good the revision pack was in covering all the areas you need to know.

Thanks for all your advice. I e-mailed Premier on Monday and as of yet I have not heard anything. It feels as if I just want to get started now though. I hate waiting......

Ring them. I had all the books arrive within 48 hours of a phone call.

    Re:Distance Learning

    Hi,

I started the technician level with a college miles away in Braintree that offered this service. After 3 exams they decided they dicided not to do distance learning anymore. As I'd pretty much studied on my own anyway I decided to go it alone.

I enrolled in my local college to sit the exam only. I bought the Osborne Books which are the most excellent books, they explain everything in such detail and have step by step case study's along the way.

I passed PTC in December and I am going to take BTC in June. If I'd realised I could do this from the start I would have, I was at college for the intermediate level and the amount of stress we was under was incrediable. Now I study as often as I can, sometime for half hour sometimes for 4 hours No pressure just a little dedication.

    Hi

Have you thought about an FTC or BPP revision course? They are a bit more expensive but I found the BPP one invaluable when I did DFS.

What do you actually get for your money on their revision courses?

    Re:Distance Learning

Revision courses are excellent for question approach. I went to college for AAT but use BPP for ACCA and have found that revision courses are fantastic for question practice and exam technique. This is especially useful when the nature of questions makes them time pressured.

If I could only do one course I would take the taught course in preference but I used the revision courses for the 2 papers with the low pass rates and found them invaluable.

To answer your question Baggybooks, you get the practice and revision kit, a set of condensed revision notes and 2-3 days of tuition with endless practice.

I am doing AAT Payroll with Premier and found them completely rubbish. They didn't know any of the answers to my questions, they were slow in getting back to me, and advised me it was ok to sit the exam before i took the simulations because of a time restriction. I passed the exam last june, and dispite a few emails to them regarding how i contiune, i have not had even had ONE email back. Nor do i still receive the monthly news letter.

    Steer Clear of Premier Training!!!

Premier have had tutors leave recently. I've had a few problems but I think I've got them back on track now.

Their newsletter was a waste of space. They just stopped doing it - but never explained why.

Not sure if I'd say stay clear of them, but not sure if I could recommend them either.

If you'd asked last year, I would have recommended them without hesitation. But I've received notes with errors in - not ideal when you're the pupil!
