Re:Study Buddy
Bad news guys!
As some of you know, IΓ’β¬β’ve been trying to arrange a Study Buddy reunion. The final holiday camp that was considering accepting the booking has declined us. November in Bognor would have been great, too!
Never mind. I think we know where this was heading:
CJC and Blobby would have had too much drink and got into a fight over the size of their lappies.
The girls would have been talking in a strange text language that didnΓ’β¬β’t require vowels.
Jamie and Malcolm would have been drlng vr thm!
Claudia would have missed it because she couldnΓ’β¬β’t get her raspberry to work.
Wrangler and Paul would have been arguing over whether they should play country and western or Radiohead.
No-one else would be there because Malcolm was in charge of sending the emails.
I would, of course, be busy spell-checking the entire notice board of forthcoming events.
ItΓ’β¬β’s almost like we were thereΓ’β¬Β¦

Re:Study Buddy
Yeah, it would have been cowboy boots and whips at dawn...... :shock:0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Now accountancy and text speak have a connection. Both involve economics.
At least the e-mails would've looked pretty if not informative.
I hear Camber Sands may be available instead.
I'm devastated by the news.0 -
Re:Study Buddy

I'm sure Robert's is much bigger than mine (lappy that is) - and I'm really quite abstemious these days.
I'm not sure that Bognor in November would have been much of a change of scene from Newquay in November anyway.
Boots and whips eh?

Re:Study Buddy
Good news guys
Due to overprinting, Helen will be at a WH Smith near you, signing copies of the latest edition of Accounting Technician
Numbers are limited so hurry. Check out www.baggybooks.co.uk for details.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
And so will Claudia, and so will Mandy...
Funny how the guys never made it into print, hey?

Re:Study Buddy
Well they obviously wouldn't want me in there twice in a row

Re:Study Buddy
I've made it into consecutive copies, so that can't be it, Chris.
Maybe there was gender bias involved in the article? Is Marc short for Marcia?
:roll:0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Potential dispute alert!!
We can't have all that so let's talk about sex, as in why do people insist on using the word 'gender'?
I was brought up with forms that asked for your sex, not gender. Is this a PC thing? It mucks up my statistical tables I can tell you.
We don't say Battle of the Genders do we?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I think it was changed because on application forms, too many were responding with 'YES' when asked about sex.
Is that giggling I hear at the back, boys?

Re:Study Buddy
Who's to say there aren't a few girls guffawing in the background?
Well, if people want to be classified nouns, it's up to them I guess.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Why aren't the Chief Assessors' reports up for Technician yet?
:twisted:0 -
Re:Study Buddy
They will be up by the end of tomorrow.0 -

Re:Study Buddy
I still think of gender as essentially a grammatical term. I always the use of gender applied to humans was to distinguish between biological difference (sex) and social/cultural difference (gender) - somehow 'gender' has now come to encompass biological sexual difference too.
PS Can we ban the term 'politcally correct', it's completely meaningless?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I abslutely hate PC, it is ruining this country0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Totally agree.

Re:Study Buddy
I may be wrong, but I thought 'politically correct' orginally meant 'in order to be polite': you would use a 'politically correct' phrase as to avoid accidentally offending someone, or to address them properly. Knowing when to use 'your grace' or 'your honour', for instance. Or, more commonly, addressing an unknown man as 'sir'. Of course it's grown from being a simple matter of etiquette into what we have today.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
On a subject of similar ilk, we had a discussion the other night about the dissappointment of the lack of understanding in younger generations, even to this day regarding homosexuality. I made the point, that I believe this is something that will never change until religion is taken out of the curriculum. Any thoughts on this subject?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I'm not sure it's particularly limited to religion in the curriculum. Undestanding religion forms a important part of understanding our own and others' culture and I don't have a problem with it beingthere. It doesm thoughm need to be taught as an objective academic subject rather than as an attempt to inculcate a particular set of values and beliefs.
I do, however, feel that having an 'act of worship' in schools abhorrent and the presence of faith schools deeply devisive (on the basis of class as well as culture) and archaic
The real issue though seems to be the priveleging of religious doctrine in ethical and political debates. In preaching that gay people are not fit to adopt children (amongst other things) the church encourages and makes common cause with homophobic bullies, queer bashes and killers - and yet, because it was a 'faith position', such bigotry was taken as an acceptable consideration in debate on government policy.
I wouldn't position myself on the Dwarkinsite, radical atheist wing, there are some aspects of reigion that are positive, intelligent and harmless - but there's also many that posses none of these qualities. What consenting adults wish to do in provate is one thing but religious beleif should form no part of public policy.
OK, end of incoherent rant
