Has anyone used this as a method to gain clients or has clients who use mailing lists?

I haven't but a client of mine was considering using a company who provide lists of contacts as a way of drumming up new trade and asked my opinion.

As I haven't used direct marketing before, I would be interested in your views.

Thanks
Michelle

    Hi Krispi

I have had a client who has tried this method of marketing.

He has tried both ways of using this approach, he bought a list of details and then employed someone to make the calls or send emails to the potential clients and he also bought a list from a company, but they also contacted the potential clients on his behalf to try and arrange meetings.

Both methods were extremely costly and not much was gained in return (there was a 2 year gap in between each campaign) I believe the lists had between 1500-2000 contacts and on the first campaign gained 3 clients and on the second 5 clients.

I suppose that it does depend what market you are are as to how well it works for you.

    Regards

    Hi Charlie

    Thanks for that.
This was my thought too, I have heard it can be costly with not much gained in return.

    Hi Michelle

The strange thing is the client thought that it was his best form of marketing as it made him look prestigious and that his company was bigger than it actually was in the eyes of potential clients, for some reason his bank manager didn't quite agree with him!!

Hmm can't quite see that one myself either!!

I have told the client I think it may cost more than it will bring in.
The costs are between £350 and £1000 per year depending on the list size and if they do the letters or the marketing company do them. So I can see it being very expensive for them as they are a new small company. I think they think it will boost their sales quicker than the more traditional methods of advertising.
