Life after AAT?

How about a thread with contributions from people about what happens to those who've completed their AAT training or alternatively for those that yet haven't, what are their plans for the future once they have? A little bit more explanation than the usual better salary etc!
For myself, I admit I'm not really too interested in going onto ACCA, CIMA etc but thinking about taking up the payroll side of things. Go and haunt their forum for a change!
Anyone else?

Re:Life after AAT?
For me, I don't see AAT as a progression to a different job or further qualifications.
Although I struggle with lack of study-time, I've enjoyed it so far, but I intend to move on to other challenges.

What kind of challenges? Do you mean outside of accounts?
I will be using the AAT to ease my entry into higher education- reading for a BSc in Accounting and Finance at uni.
From there? Not sure, but I am getting into the tax units and I like the look of HMRC's tax inspector graduate recruitment scheme, or the National Audit Office's.

Re:Life after AAT?
I already have my career sorted. AAT is for more of a personal challenge.
Once I've finished, I will study - but not for work.
I've always thought that working for HMRC would be interesting.0 -

A woman after my own heart, it seems.Once I've finished, I will study - but not for work.
Now I'm curious as to what you'll be studying.
For myself, I'm going back to military history-
the Roman Conquest in particular.0 -
Re:Life after AAT?
I've found a journalism course that I'd like to do.
I already write for some local magazines and do a little editing, so I thought it would be interesting and perhaps I might even earn some pocket money too!

Re:Life after AAT?
I'm thinking of doing payroll next year too, partly to have another string to my bow and partly to give me something productive to do while I consider my next move.
My options are slightly limited as the only college based course is ACCA and that's run as a full day class which isn't really feasible for me as things stand. In addition, I think it would be a good thing if I was working in an accountancy role before starting down the chartered route.
Away from accounting there's music technology course run locally that I've thought about doing for the past couple of years.
All of this is assuming I'm not still trying to pass AAT this time next year :?0 -
Re:Life after AAT?
It was suggested to me that I should consider thinking about possibly teaching accounts and so I will be looking at the teacher training course for next year...................
however, the application form has me stumped, not a good start really eh? :oops:0 -

I get that a lot too. People seem to think I would make a good teacher. I can see what they mean, and I think its something I could do well at. Or they think I should be a priest. Which is strange because I'm not really a religious person*.

Re:Life after AAT?
Teaching at somewhere like BPP has always interested me, so maybe that, but not after I complete ACCA, and then go to work in an accounts environment in Asia, or Australia for a year first.0
