Re:Study Buddy
Perhaps I'm looking through rose-tinted specs. I must pay Specsavers a visit.
I am well though.0 -

Re:Study Buddy
Since you asked, I'm INCANDESCENT WITH RAGE
Excuse me. I've just had what amounts to a pay cut. Rather than a pay rise this last September, I got a monthly performance-related bonus of 5% of my monthly salary. This has been a subjective 'yeah, you seem to be working hard', but this morning it has been changed.
I now have very specific targets that cannot, in my opinion, be met in a 40-hour week. My supervisor disagrees, he cannot see why I cannot do it, because he used to be able to do everything I do and more. I pointed out that the company has grown to thirty times its size it was when he was doing my job. He can't see my point, and so if I reach my targets I will get a 10% bonus, whereas if I can't meet them I get nothing. If I fail to meet them three consecutive months, there'll be trouble...
I'm glad I'm leaving at the end of May anyway.0 -

Re:Study Buddy
Okay, so what's more angry than 'incandescent'?
I just got my payslip.
I did 20 hours of overtime this month, but have only been paid for 10.
The pay rate of overtime is time-and-one-eighth! an eighth!
I've asked, and apparently there is no mistake.
I am not a happy bunny.
Anyway. Calming thoughts.
Urge to scream and shout fading...

Do they know you're leaving?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
We dont get paid overtime. We have 'flex time' instead where any extra hours you work means you can leave early or come in late. Also if we have 7 hours built up by xmas we can have an extra day off for shopping! I get my payslip today and im not happy cos my pension starts coming out this month so ill have less money!

Re:Study Buddy
Not yet. Handing my notice in on the 23rd April, leaving on 25th May.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Graham, though I understand the rage, incandescent or otherwise, if you're leaving before the 3 month deadline and all that, what's the actual problem?
Obviously the overtime issue is one. You will need to sort that. Time and an eighth - never heard of that one on my travels0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Just be content with the knowledge that you've made the right decision to move on.
I've never come across that calculation of overtime either.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Time and-an-eight?!
Money grabbing underapppreciating moronic losers!
Way to value your staff huh?
At least your getting ourt soon!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
In fairness, I have been shown the calculation and it's actually single time, using some arcane method to get an hourly rate from my annual salary. I'm not sure that makes it better.0 -

Oh you have a short memory, Malcolm.
It was last night we ran to the hills...
Edit request by Malcolm: Please note I was running up hills on a cross-country run last night - not running away with Malcolm.0 -

Re:Study Buddy
Ehh .. how did they work out your hourly wage then from your salary ? Surely it's just salary divided by 52 diveded by how many hours you do a week ?! That's how we've always worked it out here.
If we do overtime, it's done on a 30% penalty, or 60%
So if I was to do an extra 2 hours on saturday or past 7pm I'd get the two extra hours and the 30% of my hourly rate for the two hours.
I'd be very annoyed at one and an eighth. Tight bastards. Just as well your leaving, are you going onto something similar or just leaving as it's time to get out ?
best of luck
BTW Hi Everyone
